MSN Instant Messenger is unable to connect with error 0x81000301. What do I do?

When I attempt to sign into msn it gives me that error code and says I may not be connected to the internet...my internet is working fine, I have no viruses, I've even called shaw cable and tried everything they told me to do and it still didnt work...I've disconnected the internet and reconnected it, used a registry cleaner..and I am unable to use system restore to a point when msn was working fine. This all started when I installed 6.2, I have no idea what else to do...any ideas?

I am having the very same problem as Sarah when I try to sign into MSN
Received the same message with the error code 0x81000301.

Hi Guys....
i had the same problem....some told me to register dll and reinstall: firewall, antivirus, IE and even Operating system...after questioning Microsoft database i realized that the problem is in Winsock.....so i searched a tool (called WinsockXPFix.exe good for winxp) on the internet, download it to an isolate zone on my hard drive check viruses free and install it, after reboot the problem was solved!!!

I have the same problem. this is too weird! i go to check with WinsockXPFix.exe to see if this can fix my MSn system...

I cannot get connected as there is a error 0x81000301.I have a windows 98.What am I to do as I want to use msn messenger.

Everything is up and running with my internet, spent hours last night trying to sort msn and no luck, tried everything, there is even no sign of the msn anywhere on the computer, tried the firewall thing too...please if you could suggest any more that would be amazing. Is there some kind of block on my computer?
