Read the article that everyone's commenting on. i got a similar problem. one of my pc's keeps restarting every 5-10 minutes. the strange thing is, it doesn't restart when you're in dos. I say this because when i install windows98, the installation goes smoothly. but after the installation, when it boots up in windows, it restarts or hangs. I boot it up in dos and after 3 hours, it's stable enough and doesn't reboot. Tested all parts (memory, Processor, power supply, Hard Drive-no virus) and even flashed a new bios, but it still reboots in windows. Could it be that the integrated video is malfuntioning? the board has integrated vga/sound and i got no way of affirming it coz the board has no AGP slot. Got no PCI vid card and am hesitant to buy one. but if i do, would this fix the problem? Thanks again! Start here: http://ask-leo.com/archives/000114.html Posted by: Leo at June 24, 2004 9:55 AMFor the person who asked the original question, it might be as simple as the power setting. try isolating the issue by borrowing a video card, memory, and proc. run your computer with only the 3 put in your board. put in all three parts that you have borrowed in your board (of course include the KB and mouse. if the board works, replace one part, let's say your video card. and run your computer. if the computer does not crash or restart. turn it off. now put in another part, and so on. this would most likely isolate the source of the issue. Posted by: Jett at July 4, 2004 5:19 PMi had the same problem ........ my pc kept restarting over and over again .. at the end it got stable after i uninstalled all the programs i had .... try it Posted by: 3oweida at July 29, 2004 8:53 AMI have a similar problem. Occasionally when I turn my computer on it just automatically reboots. And when I'm on the internet it reboots itself occasionally as well. Although when connected to the internet, I have managed to pinpoint when it is going to reboot itself. On the internet icon in the bottom right corner, when about to reboot, it only recieves bytes and doesn't send any. This can be resolved by clicking on the refresh button over and over again until some bytes are recieved. But obviously its annoying because I don't spot it everytime. I've just installed win98 on a hard drive I just fdisk, partitioned and formatted. Everything seems fine but it keeps crashing when I try and load anything....Drivers, new programs etc. It was'nt working very well before, same problems, I have the same problems aswell, my pc is bout 7 months old and was workin perfectly b4 i installed another 512mb ram. I have 1gb of original ddr400 ram. when i had 512mb ram it allways worked never restarted, but now when i power up it goes past the bios and just about to load up the desktop, then restarts every time. Could it b tht my 2x 512mb ram are different makes? 1 is Infineon, and the other is hynix. but they are both original ddr400, coz when my pc starts up it says "Dual Channel Enabled". Please help me because i really need my pc, and i feel tht its quite good aswell. Posted by: vir3us at October 3, 2004 7:48 AMWell, you've done most of the diagnosis yourself :-). Looks like a memory problem to me. I'd grab memtest86 (http://ask-leo.com/d-memtest ) and see if that reports anything specific for you. Posted by: Leo at October 5, 2004 11:01 AM
