While shuting down from windows xp error message Posted by: prathi at July 2, 2004 1:36 AMWhat a suggestion. just reinstall the operating system. do you honestly expect someone to completely re install just to remove directx 9. do a search on google for directx uninstaller Posted by: Anonymous at July 16, 2004 3:58 AMYes, I do. While researching this answer I did, in fact, do exactly as you describe ... search google for tools to assist. Those that exist, as of this writing, appear to be notoriously incomplete and/or buggy - often causing more problems than they resolve. I can't recommend them. Posted by: Leo at July 16, 2004 8:07 AMThis will fix the problem. XP ships with DirectX 8.1 as ppart of the OS. DirectX 9 has a habit of not installing correctly if you have Anti-Virus Runnig, or if you are doing the install with the online installer on a dial up connection. To remove DirectX Do the following: Don't delete any of the other folders or your PC wont work. Restart your computer and if you did above, DirectX 9 will be gone, and XP will have reinstalled 8.1 in the background on restart. Confirm by doing the following: Start > Run > dxdiag This will open your directx diagnostic tool, containing a wealth of info. On the first tab, down the bottom it will tell your your directx version. Should now say DirectX 8.1 Posted by: Anonymous at July 20, 2004 4:37 AMwell i surely wanna get rid of this directx 9... cudnt imagine they cud come up with something like this. well the regisrty thing posted sounds a little weird... dont know if i can give it a go or not. Posted by: Gaurav at July 21, 2004 1:47 PMwell if someone can tell me 100% safe way to get around this problem. i will b greatful. Posted by: Gaurav at July 21, 2004 2:09 PMThe deleting registry thing works, but XP doesn't seemed to have reinstalled it by itself Posted by: Jack at August 2, 2004 7:13 AMThen XP is corrupt, something else that was installed corrupted your graphics system or disagreed with directx 9. At this point I would recommend you have a look at what you installed over the last 6 months. Consider using system restore to do this, and note what games etc you installed. Run a system restore back about 6 months and see if you are having the same problems. Guys, I HAVE TO get rid of this stupid Direct X 9.0. My question is, though, the following. Isn't XP nowadays shipped with the version 9.0???? I believe that's the case. I'm so pissed. Posted by: konstantin at August 13, 2004 8:27 AMHello. help please.
