Read the article that everyone's commenting on. All of my systems, regardless of desktop or laptop, version of Windows, and sound card maker, have a checkbox in the control panel's "sounds" properties labeled "place volume icon in the taskbar" or "show volume control on the taskbar". Perhaps some sound cards don't have that option? Posted by: Ken at March 6, 2006 1:41 PMActually this isn't about the taskbar. This is about a volume indicator that pops up over your screen, usually near the bottom. Typically a LED - simultion of a volume bar. Posted by: Leo at March 6, 2006 3:12 PMOops. I read that in the original post, but somehow forgot it when reading your reply. If only I could remember where... Posted by: Ken at March 7, 2006 7:27 AMI had two HP machines that had this on it so maybe it is an HP computer as none of my other machines have this feature. Although, I liked it so much that I found an alternative, which is volumouse which can be found with a google search and offers change of volume with the mouse wheel button + a specified key , for example holding the mouse over the task bar while scrolling the middle mouse button - works great on XP. Posted by: Marlene at March 11, 2006 5:23 AMWhat should I do if my laptop used to display those bars when I changed the volume, but now it no longer does. I still have the small volume control icon in my taskbar, but when i adjust the volume it no longer tells me what level I am at. I checked in both volume control and keyboard settings under the control panel, but neither seemed to have anything that helped.
