How do I turn off Data Execution Prevention errors?

Turning DEP off for all but essential doesn't work
I still get error message when I try to look in my
pictures.
Also I don't know what program is causing the error message so I can't add it to the avoidance list. Any ideas ? Ron

leo i read the article above but it not help me every time i open my external hard drives i get a massege that windows enconterd a problem and need to close this only happens for my ex hard drives not flash cards and only on my lap top i can open them fine on my desk cpu have you any idea what is wrong ?

Hi, my sister has this problem but when she tries to (right click any folder) the list does not appear and it immediately gives the error message,
she does not know what causes the problem, so she selected the first option and it still give here the message, what should she do?

Hi Leo, I have read the article at the top of the page, and I am not too sure as to what to do, my problem is since I added a Seagate FA 320gb external drive. I get the DEP message when I go to switch the drive off. can you shed any light on this problem? I will be forever grateful if you can help me out here.Tony.

Hi Leo, I have re-read what you said and I have sorted it out, It was Windows Explorer so I added that, I have used the drive since and everything is fine. Thanks for your advice. I have signed up for your news letter.Tony.

OK, I'm having an interesting problem. DEP throws an error when I try to defrag my "C" drive. I've added the several varients of "defrag" to the exceptions list, but no dice - still throws the error. Defrag works on my other partitions - just not on "C". I've tried setting it to "only essential Windows programs and services" (that was the default - when the problem began), and I've tried with exceptions for: defrag.exe, dfrgntfs.exe, dfrgfat.exe, dfrg.msc, and "df*.dll". Still no dice.

hi, my depcomes upwhen opening photos and documents aswell, but it also comes up when i open my computer so i cant turn it off, is there anyway to sort this out? natalie

niall o callaghan, if there is something that is causing the error, it gets added to the list itself, you don't have to add.

my WinXP give this error on explorer and generic host services, I dont know what else will cause an error, its like everyday there is a new program that causes the error, that also windows programs.

I am trying to run Warlords Battlecry 3 on Windows Vista. But every time I run the executable file, the Data Execution Prevention message pops up and says that it cannot run. I have gone to the Data Execution Prevention settings to add the game's executable file as an exception, but another message pops up and says that this program MUST run with the Data Execution Prevention on. Is there any way to get rid of Data Execution Prevention completely?

I'm trying to publish a movie on windows movie maker, but DEP keeps shutting it off. I tried making the exception on settings, but it says that it isn't compatible with DEP and can't be added as an exception. Help?
