Hari,
We use AMSN in Linux. It is very light and reliable. See http://amsn.sourceforge.net.

can i get to my past conversations on AOL instant messanger
Posted by: dakotaball44 at January 6, 2005 4:18 PMThis article covers that: http://ask-leo.com/can_i_retrieve_old_aol_instant_messenger_conversations.html
but in a word: no.
Posted by: Leo at January 7, 2005 12:12 PMDoes MSN save your instant messages?
If you did not save the message, can anybody retrieve your messages?
No, not that I'm aware of.
Posted by: Leo at February 1, 2005 7:21 PMWithout going into the unallocated space of a hard drive there is no way to retrieve conversations in IM. Unless of course you have the journaling enabled, which generally isn't.
you would:
A) have to image the ENTIRE drive, including empty space (bit for bit, not ghost)
B) use a forensic tool to search for the IM conversation bits. Encase, linux sleuthkit etc...
It is possible as this is brought up as evidence in some computer crime cases. All deleted data is always somewhat recoverable. It is just a matter of how much time or money you are willing to spend to get it back.
Posted by: Jason at February 8, 2005 12:01 PMI have gone to tools and options but there is no tab saying messages. How do I do this? I have MSN Explorer and Windows XP. Thanks
Posted by: Kathie at March 21, 2005 7:14 PMAre you sure you're using MSN messenger, and not Windows messeger? They're different, and I don't think that Windows Messenger has the archive. Posted by: Leo at March 21, 2005 7:31 PMI have msn messenger version 4.7 and there is no message option/tab. Is this a feature that has been removed?
