Posted by: James at November 17, 2005 9:38 AMMy regular computer kept freezing forcing me to reboot. After about 15 minutes of repeating this annoying process, the computer works ok before shutting down and then rebooting by itself and shutting down again (this is more likely to happen if I try to go on line too soon or start running programmes) Eventually after about 40 minutes the bcomputer works brilliantly and goes on forever untill the next day when I switch on the cmputer and go through the same fun and games.
However I have now tried a more powerful replacement processor which did'nt boot up at all and now I've tried a new fan and heat sink resulting in an alarm sound and a sole screen message which tells me that the cpu fan is not working even though it is followed by switching off. Finally Ive put the old fan and heat sink back on and the message is still the same.
the other day while i was playing Battlefron 2 my computer started to act weird, the mouse wasnt responding(wireless mouse) and then my computer died. But all the fans that where connected straight to the power supply worked. My intuition is telling its my motherboard but i want to make sure it is b4 buying another motherboad please help!!!???
Posted by: PJTop at November 21, 2005 12:03 PMPlease help, ive not adjusted any settings or changed the way i use my X.P but it's started shutting itself down, when idle, and an alarm sound comes from my pc. The only way i can reboot is by switcking it off at the wall and rebooting, wich is fine, but if i try to shut down and then restart, the same thing happens. i haven't got a clue as to whats going on. My pc is clear of viruses and trogans and my fan does work, but there is now way the pc is hot enough to crash as its not on long enough. Can anyone help???

Posted by: ch at January 3, 2006 3:42 AMI recently build a system. When I turned it on,
it gave the motherboard intro, and started to do its post process, then turn off after 2 or 3 seconds. It did this everytime, I turned it on. Before this happened though, I had realized that I had forgotten to apply thermal grease or gel on the CPU. However, at first, I did not think that was the problem. I checked all cables, and wires to make sure they werer connected properly and connected to the right sockets etc. Nothing worked...I turned on the machine, and it went off in 2 or 3 seconds again. Being stumped, and running out of alternatives, I took out the CPU fan, and felt the CPU...it was extremely hot. I let it cool, and applied a little thermal grease on the CPU and reinstalled the CPU fan. Presto, the computer worked...it did not turn off, and I have been using it ever since. Amazing what a little thermal grease can do!!!
