you can download "directx Happy Uninstall" and it's DX backup files from www.superfoxs.com, and then run it, use "uninstall" function to restore DX8.1 from backup files just you download.

how to reinstall DX9.0c on XP with SP2?
run "directx Happy Uninstall", press "backup/repair---install DX9.0c to your XP" function

Hi all..maybe u have all sorted it out but I dont know..I managed to sort it out doing the following steps works purfect now and I can play all my games YAY

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
3. At the command prompt, type regsvr32 softpub.dll, and then press ENTER.
4. Click OK when you receive the message that DllRegisterServer in Softpub.dll succeeded.
5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 for the following files: Wintrust.dll, Initpki.dll, Dssenh.dll, Rsaenh.dll, Gpkcsp.dll, Sccbase.dll, Slbcsp.dll, Mssip32.dll, and Cryptdlg.dll.
6. Type exit, and then press ENTER to quit Command Prompt.

On the sims 2 i need DirectX 9.0c and when i try to install DX 9.0c i says "A cabinet file necessary for instalation cannot be trusted." WHAT AM I TO DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Plese HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have windows 98 and I currently have uninstalled direct X 9.0B but I need to install 9.0c the problem is I have an untrustworthy cabinet I have no idea what that means and I need help figuring out.....

Antony Sym, you are my hero. Some of the .dll had an error when trying to do the regsvr with them, probably because they weren't found or something. I'm running WinME and after doing what you suggested, DX9.0c worked YAY.

Hi. I have the same problem as someone above. I have win 98 and whenever I try to play it says, "Couldn't find any compatible Direct3D devices with the required capabilties," but my game came with #9. So shoulndn't that work??? Do I need to get a new video card or what???? Thanks in advance for any response.

It dure sounds like it's not finding a compatible video driver. You may need updated driver, or a new card on an older machine.
