Thanks so much for posting instructions on how to move OE files from one computer to another. Was fast and easy. Used a flash drive. Last time I did this, it a long time to manually find and move all these files. This was 1000% better! Thanks.

Fine, but a warning: if the old machine happened to be, instead, Windows XP with multiple Outlook Express identities then a different procedure should be used including .csv

You are my hero......
I spent a whole week trying to get those files over and although l wasn't able to follow your route exactly....once you showed me the source directory.... all worked out. It took me 4 full CD's (and a bit of tweaking until l had all the necessary source folders on each CD) but finally all my email files are copied from Windows 2000 Pro to my new XP Pro. Thank you very much... needed those files to continue work on a
multi year project. You are the man!

Found the folder using a Command prompt and old DOS commands. Thanks anyway.

I did this:
On the old machine, the easiest way to locate Outlook Express' email store is to ask Outlook Express. Fire it up, and then in Tools, Options, on the Maintenance tab there's a button labeled Store Folder. Click that and it will tell you the folder containing your email folder.

But, instead of copying it, I moved it to a new location. We then tried to open the folders and they are all empty. We also tried to import them back into Outlook Express because they were no longer there. Now, all of the folders in Outlook are empty. How do I get the contents back?

Thanks,
Kim

I have read many of the posts for th OE problems and have not gotten close to a resolution to my problem. Outlook Express will not open and I am desperate to save both the folders as well as the address book. When the suggestion is open OE, go to tools...etc; that is not an option. I can save it to this drive or a network computer but I have to get the data from a dead program. Any thoughts???

You can get DBX Converter tool from http://www.dbxconverter.com to quickly convert Outlook Express emails to EML files or Outlook PST file.

Excellent explanation and description on what to do but unfortunately it didn't work thus far. Exported OE6 dbx files from old machine on jump drive and installed on HD of new machine (Vista 64 bit). Verified they weren't read only and even changed them to read only and then reversed it. Closed other papps. Didn't transfer. Same error messages noted in your writeup.

Any other suggestions?
