So, Leo, I have a 4 port switchview usb KVM switch. The KVM part is standard PS2/HD15. The USB part is connected to my printer (the idea being I should be able to use the printer from whichever system is selected on the KVM. Great idea when it works(and, I have to admit, it usually does!
The first PC on that switch is running XP PRO. Whenever I switch to any of the other PC's, XP PRO on system one starts beeping away. When I switch back to it, it normally (but not always) pops up with a USB error...
Any ideas on that (I've already tried to contact Avocent, standard disappointment there)?
I guess I expected too much, like an answer, mebbe...
Only because I don't have one for you, and with 100's of questions and comments every week, I focus on the ones I can actually help with :-).
In your case it *sounds* like the KVM switch is not handling the disconnected PC correctly, but you already know this. In your shoes, with no support from the manufacturer, I'd return it and try a different brand.
I've bought my son a mp3 player, in the instuctions it says basically plug in the usb connecter and windows will install it all for you, I did this on my home pc a bubble came up saying new hardware found then followed by a hardware update wizard in a box, I followed the instuctions but it says cannot install hardware followed again by the bubble saying it didn't install and might not work properley.
I took the mp3 player to work and plugged it into the usb port and on this pc everything went fine, the bubble came up but no box and I didn't have to touch a thing.
I'm at a loss to why this happens, any ideas would be gratefully received. both os are xp home edition
Are both XP's fully up-to-date with SP2? I'd be really tempted to also visit windows update to make sure everything is latest & greatest.
hi,i have tried to instal my mp3 player which worked until i updated my windows xp with sp2.Now it won't recognize it and it asks for the drivers which i dont have as the mp3 player is supposedly plug and play and the only driver available is for windows 98. if you could help that b great :). thanks
i bought a "misys" MP3 player from my ICT teacher 2 days ago...as soon as i got home i was eager to get some songs onto it...but i plugged it in and nothing happened what so ever!!
so me thinking it was the MP3 player that wasnt working i took it back to school and gave it to my teacher and told him it wasnt working so he plugged it into his computer and it worked fine, with the bubble that popped up and all the auto install and things...so he told me to turn it on when i plugged it in...and ive tried it and it still doesnt work! nothing happens! and i go to "my computer" and there's nothing there! pleeeeeease help me!!!
I have a sandisk cruzer USB drive. It use to work fine. One fine day while I was transferring some data into the USB drive, came up an error message, something like all data has been lost. There after the drive is getting detected on any of the OS but drivers are missing windows is not installing the drivers for the device anymore, I have tried the drive on atleast 5 different computers and none of them install the drivers for the device. I did unplug the drive without using "safely remove hardware" in the past, but not that day before it stopped working completely. I wonder is it possible to recover the drivers or if there is someway to install the driver?
Rozy: you didn't say what version of windows you have, or whether it's up to date with WIndows Update. I'd certainly recommend the later. Then, if it still doesn't auto recognize, I'd hit Control Panel, and run the Add New Hardware wizard.
hello there, i would like to ask you for some advice. I recently purchased a new mp3 player and i wanted to install it so i turned it on and then plugged it in to my usb port and then on the screen it said "new hardware found usb device" and then shortly after it said "new hardware found usb mass sotrage device" but then about a minute or so later it came up sayin "there was problem installing your usb device so it may not work properly" and as it says it doesn't work because if i go on my computer and click on removable disk (f:) which is the mp3 player it comes up saying insert disk into (f:). pleas could you help me with this problem. many thanks in advance Gareth Cross :-D
