Error! Hyperlink reference not valid.I want to discuss internet marketing via the likes of Google's AdSense and Amazon.
About a month back I thought I'd completely update my creative writers group website. One of it ideas in the back of my mind was that we could possibly earn a few pound sterling by having a link through to Amazon. It would be a way to sell some of the books we, and other writers we know. could sell a few extra books. At the time I didn't even know how it was done and if I could in fact do it. If we made enough to pay our site fees I'd be happy.
One of the best internet letters I've come across yet is 'Tourbus,' (http://tourbus.com). Over the years I've had some very good advice via this letter, I'd recommend it to anyone. Anyway imagine my surprise when I received their letter dated Feb 10 and the author, Bob Rankin, was going on about this friend of his Joel Comm and how he makes loads of money via AdSense and such programs. So I took a look at what was been said, searched a number of sites, got a general idea of what it was all about, and thought to myself: 'I could do that.'
Having convinced myself I could make some money from this programs I then started to do some more research - to find out 'exactly' what it was that was been written about.
There was a lot of hype out there, (I suppose that's a large part of it at the end of the day,) there was plenty of bits and pieces of information, plenty of pointers to follow, but I couldn't find a primer. A book, or e-book, that would put all the basics into my hand, something to start the novice off. Do any members know of such a publication or websites where I could pick the info up.
It's the primer I'm after, the basics, the introduction to web marketing, once

Posted by: johnway at March 19, 2005 7:47 AMI have been trying to make money from advertising on my site for years and i can promise you you need 10000's of hits to make the smallest of profit.
I have found a great method which earns you £10 - £50 (dont know what that is in dollars) a week. Which is very consistant unlike advertising.
Heres the link to help you if your intersted...

Posted by: peterway at July 6, 2005 12:02 PMI completely agree with the hard work aspect of making money takes hard work.
Without knowledge you will have to overcome a lot of hurdles including partial hits to your own pocket to realise there are only a handful of ways to make it.
I agree Adsense is probably the most common direction we will follow, Ebay, amazon are others.
Some even fall under the impression that clicking for 14 hours a day to receive traffic to your website to get your Google ads or your affiliate banners or links clicked will pay.
This is all well and good if you want to be a zombie in quick time.
Unfortunately if you are thinking "yes, thats what I have been doing for ages" then you are obviously part of those traffic syndication systems that only show other zombies websites and you are on a road to knowhere. STOP!
If you have no idea what I have just said, then you may well be the lucky one that got away.
It took me a while before my Eureka moment and realised that nothing but reaearch into Website Optimisation would suffice.
Thankfully I grasped the concept easily and this usually helps if you have a laterally thinking side to your grey matter, the result being I now rank well for my Website Design Business as well as I also make a little money through advertisers OFFERING ME money to place text links on my Sunderland FC blog.
The lessons I learned took what seemed like an age, but I am thankful for what I have learned so far and I will not stop because I like you need to improve my abilities and knowledge, not to make money (although partially true) but to grasp all that I can about the World Wobbly Web.
I have put a few pages up on my Web Design site about optimisation explained in it`s simplest terms @ http://www.website-by-design.co.uk/optimisation/
You may even find the stuff useful, but if all you want to do is make money on the net then you are surely deluded into thinking that the rest of the planet are the same suckers that give their bank account details to the Secretary of the Ex-President of Guatamala to deposit $10 million dollars because their infrastructure is failing or her neighbours cousins dog has one eye and needs an operation that requires monthly installments.
Get real, wake up and optimise the products/services or information you are offering to the rest of us.
FAO leo.
This was not intended to be a rant, it just turned into one!
If anyone reading this disagrees with what I have just said then I would say: "Me and you, outside...now".
No seriously I have just come to grips with the PageRank Algorithm so I will completely understand if you have the formulae for success in making money on the net.
Posted by: Dean Cruddace at February 9, 2006 5:53 PMI think that AdSense is much easier to make money with compared to affiliate programs. I even run a website dedicated to helping people get the most out of AdSense! http://www.discussitonline.com/
Posted by: Austin at August 25, 2006 3:33 PMDon't worry about the hassle of making *your* website make money - get someone to do it for you. JV Members allow to take a sizeable proportion of the money made by pages you submit. They do all the SEO, promotions and hard work getting traffic, finding affiliate products etc. All you do is add words to the pages - jvmembers.com
Posted by: chris at September 18, 2006 8:43 AMYou can make money with your website if you offer something useful to others.Make your site practical.Don't build your website just for the revenue.Let's say you have a good website..but you have no visitors...then your work is equal to 0.You need SEO to get displayed on search engine results, and in this way..drive traffic to your website.
If you are a SEO beginner or you don't know what's SEO about..you can read this simple do-it-yourself SEO tutorial : http://www.webcodes.info/
Conclusion: good website content + good SEO = success. Then, it is up to you to decide the advertising method.

Posted by: fred bruce at June 23, 2007 7:59 AMi started a free website, who can i ask too advertise on my site and what can i charge
Posted by: kobus at July 14, 2007 6:26 AMAfter you finished your website, make it popular and then you can earn money from it.The easiest way to make your website popular is to submit it to web directories (example: http://directory.ipgp.net )
If you submit your website to a lot of directories and you get a higher PageRank from Google, then you can sell links from your website.Adsense is also a good source of revenue and many others. When it comes to money... be creative ! ;)
