I was phished and my email was being read by someone I don't know. I tried to change my ip by doing the following step above, but my computer will not change it. I went to start, run, cmd, ipconfig/release, then to tcp/icp and then added my own ip address. closed the box and then went back in and then let to computer to assign ip automatically. I went back into cmd, release all and sure enough my ip was still the same. Any suggestions? I am connected to an at&t modem.

Your IP address probably has nothing to do with your being phished or your
email being read.
Your IP address is *assigned* to you, you don't pick it or force it to change.
But like I said, that probably has little to do with the situation you're in.

Posted by: Rahul Sharma at January 30, 2008 11:16 AMI followed your guide and have had everything working for a number of months now, THANKS!!
Now I have a new issue. My PC has 3 network adapters (2 wired and 1 wireless). I only use 1 wired and the wireless. The wired connection is the one I setup to have a static IP of 192.168.254.10. Now, I am needing to set my wireless to also have a static IP address. I followed the steps above once again, but it won't let me do it. I am getting a message that says, "Warning - Multiple default gateways are intended to provide redundancy to a single network (such as intranet or the Internet). They will not function properly when the gateways are on 2 seperate disjoint networks (such as one on your intranet and one on the Internet). Do you want to save this configuration?"
If I choose yes, it proceeds, but will not properly connect saying something about "Unidentified network".
What do I do?
THANKS!!
-Nicolai
Posted by: Nicolai at March 12, 2008 11:11 AMFor those of you looking for your static info, gateway, etc, open a command window (start| Run| CMD|
Type "ipconfig" in the new window. There's your info.
This may not work in all situations. YMMV, as always.

Posted by: Harish Jakkal at April 10, 2008 1:08 PMHey Leo.
Im currently running a Speedstream router ADSL2+ directly into a Netgear wireless router and broadcasting to my laptop. I don't have any desktops connected to the routers. I was wondering how i could get my laptop to host games on Warcraft using port 6112. I've tried numerous guides about setting up Static IP's so that i can portforward from my speedstream, and I've tried assigning static ip's on my netgear and portforwarding from there, but nothing seems to work. Can you help me out here?
Much Appreciated

I am having issue with my static IP address. I followed your instructions and was able to connect to the internet. I am using Windows XP. However, it seems that every other day my computer resets the IP protocol to "obtain an IP address automatically" and I have to manually input the static IP address along with all the other subnet mask and default gateway addresses. I can't figure out anyway to get it to stop. Every other day like clockwork it simply resets itself and I have to reconfigure the address. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Posted by: Chad at May 24, 2008 12:14 AMHi all!
I have an static IP adress and my conection works fine, until after some hours, 4, 8 or what ever it loses connectivity.
Every thing seems to be OK and suddenly there is no connectivity.
I think is something with my ISP DNS to do, because when I set the ipconfig/registerdns command, it works igen for a while, but it seems not to be the best solution.
What I have to do is unplug the modem (reset under a couple minutes) plug again and it works again, until the next 3,4 hours.
What can it be? TTL that does not map my ip or what?
I called my ISP, but they couldn“t solve the problem...
Any ideas?
Hi Leo,
I have some questions about installing a second server in a network, the existing one is SBS 2003 and is the file server/emails/DC/basically everything in one.
I'm wanting to add a second server running 2003 server standard and wondering if its possible to do all that you mentioned in this article including assigning a static ip address (do i have to get another static ip address assigned to my 2nd server??)?
You mentioned that you had your port forward different programs to different pc's and just wondering if i can use this type of system?
It is also because i want to create a new domain for this server and its users, and if possible i would restrict both servers from being able to communicate from each other.
Any help with this would be very much appreciated
