Hi Leo,
The article is simple and easy to follow.
I have couple of questions:
1. What if there have to be two web servers behind the router?
2. is port forwarding any way connected to NAT concept?
Thanks In advance,
-Kumar
2) It's part of the NAT concept. One one site you have local IP address, and on the other you have a public IP. You're translating IP addresses for all packets that cross through the router, regardless of direction.
If you guys have a dynamic ip address and want to host a server...
Check out http://www.dyndns.com/ this site allows you to create a few names for free. If you download thier client it will update your address to the domain name.
I host 2 domains using 1and1, and use DynDNS to tell everone my new address.
My Dynamic DNS name is etorvinen.ath.cx.
then I create cnames using 1and1 to point to that DNS.
DynamicIP: etorvinen.ath.cx
MyName: http://www.ejtsystems.com
MyName: http://www.torvinen.net

I am trying to set up a win2003 server thru which computers will connect to the internet. The server has two NICs, one for DHCP and the other to connect to the internet. Access to the internet is currently thru a Motorola DSL using one static ip address; the DSL is also a dhcp server (I want to turn off the dhcp server on the dsland use the server to assign the ip addresses). Our Qwest ISP informed me that our static ip address does not have a subnet mask but they gave us primary and secondary dns's. How do I configure the server so it route internet and dhcp serves to my computers in my office?
Posted by: Jesse at November 14, 2008 7:26 PMIn my medical office we have no server. We have a VoIP phone system which provides us a T1 dedicated line out to the Internet. We also have an EMR system that we use for patient records. We chose to have the vendor of the software house the server on their end since we have no internal IT dept. So the vendor provided a Juniper router to allow our computers to connect to the software. Now the ISP for our VoIP has sent out a letter saying that they are giving us a new static IP address and that we need to make those changes. I will pass the letter along to the software vendor to make those changes to the router the provide for us, but do I follow the steps in the article above to make the changes to the all the office computers?
I read the article but I need to know what the settings for a Static IP for a DSL Modem and a Router? When all is configured correctly can my computer find the internet connected to the DSL modem? Or a Router port or both? I guess what I am really asking is should the Modem settings be "BRIDGED" and NO IP address? I am getting conflicting reports.
I have a cctv sentinel security system and i was thinking about getting a static ip so that i could view my store from my home. how do i go about doing this. Is this the same as the article says , because there is a special program it uses to see what the camera sees.
how can i get a static ip from my isp? I have to call the company or is there an other way to set it up from my computer.
OK here goes, Wife removed my modem for my pc. put it on another in the house (worked fine), power went out and back on in this time. My pc was still hooked to my d-link router when power went out. Now my IP address is gone, seems to have copied the dlink or some other ip starting with 169.
I have tried everything to fix, even restored pc to factory default just like it was new out of the box. Still nothing, can someone help. I dont want to pay someone 200 dollars to fix something that I could do.. Ive done it all uninstalled everything and such
I use vista
Posted by: Keith at April 4, 2009 1:08 PMHi Leo,
My internet connection is behind a ADSL router and I configured my PC and router as said in this article, I assigned a static private IP to my NIC 192.169.1.2 and router Lan IP to 192.168.1.1 and configured routers WAN IP with static Public IP provided by my ISP and added my PC's IP address to port forwarding...
But, when I type my Static IP address in a browser my routers admin page is opening.
Any sugessions would be very much appreciated
Thank you
Gideon
