i have the same problem with no start menu. when i restart my computer it has this error code: -2147023174

and when i get to the system restore it says it is not able to protect your computer. restart then run again. i do that still nothing

My task bar+icons went missing after I installed Panda Antivirus 2009, here's how I fixed it:
windows-button+r, wrote regedit in the Run... box, navigated to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Software, Microsoft, Windows, CurrentVersion, Run. Made a new string there named explorer, with the value of C:\Windows\explorer.exe

hey SIW it is because someone changed the settings. What you have to do is right click the toolbar, go to properties, and then check "keep the taskbar on top of other windows" . Boom all done

thank you so much my taskbar popped up and same with my sidebar. Then all my programs started up again :)

I tried all the above... no avail. Ours was a different kind of problem. The kids like to play online games and need the "full screen" option. Maybe yours changed by accident or by the gamers in your family. Go to TOOLS (up on the browser) and DESELECT full screen. Voila!

The new task and type in explorer worked really well thank you all i would of got in a lot of trouble if i did not fix it
