My Company "Progressive Technology & Innovations Inc" Is currently releasing a new personal GPS locator that uses a SIM card in it that on command will send via an SOS button on the device its current Position lat/lon via SMS text. It also works in reverse, you can send a text to the device and get its current position. I am looking for some sort of user interface for sending the text via PC and recieving the coordinates back to an email, then cut and paste or click the link to get the location in a more timely fashion. I am currently using the AT&T Go Phone SIM card, but it will work with any SIM card. Any Ideas?
Sincerely,
M. Lawrence

Dear Leo:

You never really answered this question but I can lend a hand. If he/she can hook their cell phone up to their PC, they can use the PC to send SMS messages. Jeyo has a product that can be installed on the computer to enable this function.

Motorola also has a program that can be installed on the computer and used to send text messages. I prefer Jeyo.

Dear Leo:
I have checked several websites where you can send text messages to a cellphone. You type the message, the cellphone number and click send. Seems very simple. However,I am concerned that the phone number is going to be used by or sold to advertisement companies to send unsolicited commercial messages.
Is that a legitimate concern?

Thanks for your website

The only sure way ive found so far is as follows, have a friend Text a message to your email account (hotmail) as a cell-to-cell text message.
if you receive it in your inbox simply reply to whatever the sender was and it will work...example.

TELUS works as follows. send an email with your message to 5555555555@msg.telus.com the 10 digits being the area code and number, no spaces or dashes. and they willr eceive the message as a text, not an email on their phone.

i mnot sure what rogers and bell require you to do. This "trick" was free and worked the first time. it was how i sent phone pictures to my computer.

The problem with the xxxxx@telconame.com method is that it is not reliable and most of the time, the telco could throttle the traffic.

There are sites that specialize in sending sms from PC to phone for free. Check chikka.com or google it.

To send email to a Rogers cell use the 10 digit phone number as the email addy, so:
nnnnnnnnnn@pcs.rogers.com.

And, hey, to about 50% of previous commenters: Please read the whole freakin' article and the prior posts before asking a question that's already answered there.
