Can I send text messages between a computer and a cell phone?

i have a question, say if you have yahoo messenger and send a text to a phone...if it's from the same comeputer will the number be the same? or maybe a 1 number difference if its two different yahoo ids? thanks

@Drew - No. Each Mobile phone has an email assigned by it's carrier.

Well, not exactly about SMS but since this discussion falls into IMs on mobile phones, one can try Fring (it supports Chats in yahoo, msn, twitter, gtalk, & many more). It also supports sendng of files via the messenger, though not all messenger services are supported. It supports VOIP too & Gtalk users can use the mobile with Fring to save on international calling costs. Only requirements are a java enabled phone with an Internet Data plan / Wifi hotspot (if the phone has builtin wifi). Last but not the least, it is free.

In Europe since the person who receives an sms doesn't pay, in most cases there aren't any email addresses to send an sms to. But there are services such as GMX.net and Web.de in Germany that allow you to send sms by computer for a small fee. GMX gives 10 free per month. There must be a similar deal n most countries.

There is a site that is pretty good for most people www.txt2day.com the only con I see to this site is the fact that you have to know their service provider. Cheers

Hi,I have a 3G iPhone and just trying to figure out how to use it.Can Google (gmail or Google talk) be used to send a text message to a phone? We are trying to not do phone to phone texting.I have Google App on the iPhone, so i know that I can log onto Google Talk, but it times out very fast. The new Yahoo lets you do computer to cell texting like how to play online keno can Google?

Where would I find the addresses of all the different providers? Example: Sprint is ..the cell phone number@messaging.sprintpcs.com If someone knows where they might be listed, that would be great.
