Why can't I open attachments in Hotmail?

So, is hotmail now acting as big brother, deciding what I can and cannot open in my hotmail? I cannot send myself pictures from my own cell phone, even though it is on my "safe" list? Thank you hotmail, you have forced me to set up another email account under another provider. I will not use hotmail again. This is BS. How dare YOU decide what I can and cannot open.

Same question as Manny Sancho. Some picture attachments to me email come blocked in gray. they are not attached as JPEG. I cannot view these pictures. HELP

I am able to open Hotmail attachments with Firefox that do not open with IE6, so I keep both browsers on my deskttop.I also notice that if I do not select the printer (even though I am not printing)to which my laptop is connected at the time, an attachment will not always open.

In the last few months, I have had difficulty opening emails with attachments. When I open an email that has an attachment, hotmail just freezes up and I can't do anything. I have to ctrl, alt, delete to get to task manager and end task on the internet. These are .doc files that should be able to open, but it locks up my whole hotmail. I can't even navigate back to my inbox. I suspect some issue between hotmail and vista but can find no known problems. My husband has been experiencing the same problems on his computer with his hotmail. Any ideas? the article didn't help.

yeah..i experienced the same problems as Angie. The whole internet explorer just hangs whenever i try to open or save a normal attached file from hotmail that could usually be received before this. And also, the attached file only cant seem to be opened in my laptop but when i use another computer to access to it, there wasnt any problems at all. How come?? Pls help!!

hi,I cant veiw attachments either, i uploaded short vids from my mobile sent as email (hotmail)to myself as a test, am getting message it cannot open 3g file? iv joind a site to try and convert it, but im still getting the same error message
does this mean we cant attach anything that was uploaded from a mobile, please help

I am unable to open any attachments that come attached to a Hotmail e-mail. I can open them with another provider however. The majority of these e-mails have been sent from, what I consider to be, very secure sources. I took Jules' advice but it did not work. I had someone send me an e-mail from Microsoft Community Notification says they have the answer but when I attempted to open the link all that happened was a blank window appeared with Done indicated in the lower left. It appears that I cannot open anything attached to the e-mail, only the e-mail itself. Any suggestions on what I can do?

My problem is as follows:

Someone sent me a Zip file, but I can't open it. I get a message that there are too many files inside the Zip file, so the file can't be scanned.

Sending the file to another adress is no option either, because Hotmail just ignores the file altogether. What am I to do???

Since a few weeks I have been unable to open attached files, even simple textfiles, sent to my hotmail adress. I tried sending my incoming mails to to myself on another hotmailadress and used the same computer to open the mail. Then I could open the attached files. So the problem must in some way be in settings (unknown to me) for my usual hotmail address. Which??

I can't open attachments either. The Getting File Information Window pops up when I try to download a file. It never gets out of that loop and I can't open any files in Yahoo or Hotmail. I am sure it has something to do with my norton protection center. Right? I don't know what to click to allow me to open attachments or save attachments to my computer.
