In response to the first comment posted, you can in fact mass forward existing email from hotmail to gmail. I just learned how to do it today ironically. I know this is a late reply, but maybe it will be some useful info for Leo in the future. All you have to do is download a nifty utility called GetMail. You can find this free utility here:
http://www.e-eeasy.com/GetMail.aspx
You will find the download link near the bottom of the page.
After that, all you need to do is mark everything as unread in your box. Launch this program and fill out the required fields. (Username, password, and gmail account to forward to.) After that, you just click forward. It will login to your hotmail account and forward all unread messages to your gmail for you, and it will tell you how many it forwarded. In my experience today, sometimes the forwarding was fast, sometimes it was slow, so make sure you have some time available. If you have other folders in your hotmail, you need to move their contents to the inbox and mark them as unread for them to be forwarded. At least that is what I needed to do, anyway. I am sure you won't read this, but I can hope. Good luck!
- Master Zorlak
P.S. Yeah okay, so the last comment above mine mentions this. Too bad, I already typed it up. :)

I have been a Hotmail user since the beginning! For about 10 years! I have finally had enough! It no logger works with Outlook... I keep getting timeouts. When using the web interface the web site crashes and is slow. I have noticed that sorting only works per page. Forwarding is unavailable, unless you pay. Hotmail maybe free but it isn't worth my time and effort!

I think my antivirus is preventing the program from working for me after the last virus definition update. Bottom line folks... try getmail and report back if you are still successful.

It's a great program, hopefully I get my situation resolved soon.

getmail does not work any longer unless you upgrade your hotmail account for pop access.

Their faq section says it's the result of recent changes at hotmail that requires a paid account to allow pop access. I have been using getmail for a few months and it worked flawlessly, 3 days ago it stopped forwarding my mail.
I'm now looking for an alternative.

It is possible. Try http://www.e-eeasy.com/GetMail.aspx It lets you forward from a hotmail address. I can't verify it's use, but a person could set up a new folder and transfer *crucial* emails to that folder as it appears this forwarding program only clears out inbox/bulk folder. Also I assume if you use the various POP helpers around the internet for downloading of yahoo/hotmail (ie. http://yahoopops.sourceforge.net/ http://www.boolean.ca/hotpop/) you can get great results.

I myself hope to start moving all emails from yahoo/hotmail to gmail as these services are starting to annoy me more than help me!

In Canada: Redirecting email from accounts at canada.com costs CAD $9.95/year. It used to be that you had to login at least once every 30 days to maintain the account. The minimal charge replaced that necessity. It's not only good for Blackberry owners, but also members of international organizations with published memberlists, when you occasionally change ISPs.
