@Babu, you can forward different ports on your router to the RDP port on seperate clients.

A example is simple. Let's say the machine you can currently connect to is pc1, and want to connect to pc2 at work. So you go into your router config options, and forward 3390 to pc2's local ip. Then you can forward 3391 to pc3, and so on.

P.S. 3389 is the assumed port for RDP protocol, and to connect to a different port you will need to enter in the port manually in the "compter" prompt for the mtsc client, example: my.ip.is.this:3390

I was able to remote connect to my office machine sucessfully by configuring the router etc. I have no problems in this. Sometimes, I may require to connect another machine in my same office from my home, which I was unable to do. My Question is, how to connect one of the 2 machines which were under a same router.

There is a program unlike no program b4. It will create a network between 16 computers (VPN), where loctaion is not a question. So you dont have to configure your firewalls, or routers. And you can play games over the network. No more battlenet. or other servers. I suggest all of you look into it www.hamachi.cc they where there own company. LogMeIn took them over about 2 months ago

Hamachi running on an XP Home machine will not solve the problem. XP Home doesn't have the necesary terminal services server software in order to remote desktop to the machine even if it hooked up to a VPN. There are other freeware programs, though, that will allow you to remote desktop to an XP Home machine via a VPN.

Hey everyone, having Hamachi running on an XP Home machine will not solve the problem. XP Home doesn't have the necesary terminal services server software in order to remote desktop to the machine even if it hooked up to a VPN. There are other freeware programs, though, that will allow you to remote desktop to an XP Home machine via a VPN.

In response to SUDHEER's problem: The most common reason for that type of error message is a badly set up router or firewall. Make sure you have all the necessary ports open between the two computers, both in software firewalls on your PC and any firewall that might be on your home router. Most likely it will be the firewall within your router.

In answer to madmax's question concerning his IT guy watching. With XP Pro it actually locks the host machine while remote desktop is running. If your IT guy was to connect while you where using the laptop it would lock the screen in front of your eyes. If you are using that machine from home surely you will be on another network. He may have the address for the machine when it is at work but when you are at home you will have a different address that is probably dynamically assigned by your ISP and I doubt very much he can connect to it at all.

I have managed to connect my 2 xp home machines using the windows messenger to startup a remote assistance session. i happened to have 2 msn accounts to use.

1) log onto windows messenger on both machines
2) on the computer you want to connect to, open up a chat window to your other account, click request remote assistance. accept on the other machine, then again on the host machine.
3) a remote assistance window will pop up, on the "client" machine, click take control, accept on the host machine.

you can log off of the messenger accounts (but not close messenger)
you will have the other machines screen on your desktop, full access and everything.
took me about 15 mins to figure it all out, and maybe 7 trips up and down our stairs.
