Hey Leo, I got a question about Direct X. I probably installed an illegal direct X 10 from a website and when I want to install XP Codec it says that I have to install Direct 7.0 or Higher??????? So, how can I delete this Direct X to install a new one from Microsoft official website??

Thanks, Leo, for completely breaking my DirectX with your stupid Idea of deleting the Registry Key. Now the installer from MS can't run at all, and I can't play any games. Even my 2-d desktop graphics are choppy, although I am running a high end 512MB video card *sigh*

I don't recall ever suggesting such a thing. The article you commented on certainly doesn't mention it.

fwd of a post..

I HAVE A SOLUTION!!!!

Well it worked for me anyway.

You need both the 9.0b and 9.0c full versions. both around 30Mb each. Unzip both to respective temp folders. then copy and paste the following from 9.0b to 9.0c:

dxsetup

dsetup32.dll

DSETUP.dll

next you need a direct x uninstaller. i used dx eradicator from majorgeeks.com, bu there are plenty around

once done simply run dxsetup in the 9.0c version (which would be the one you copied before right) and it will install using the files from the folder it is in. and there you go you have installed directx 9.0c.

pls email at camomanliveshere@hotmail.com to tell me if it worked for you, since i wanna know if i fluked it for sum crazy reason

Happy playin, and of course I take no responsibility if anything happens to your system (I have to say that dont I) due to using this fix. Im still happily playin and since the original post i made i have had people email me saying it works for them to without problems.

Hi all, I finally got this thing to work and it's not as easy as it usually is. First you do not need to uninstall DX9.0b at all. Just hit this link http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/xpsp2.html and download the standalone version of Service Pack 2 released August 2006. Believe me, even if your windows CD says SP2 already, you need this. Install this service pack and voila "regedit" now says DX version 9.0c. And this new service pack also improves the computer functionality. Check it out everybody.

i have solved the problem!!!!
Actually, it is very very easy. All you have to do is follow these steps(I got this from EA technical Support)

1. Forget about it.
2. Find a new hobby.
3. Microsoft sucks so dont try to fix their stuff.
4. The only problem is your brain, if you try to forget about it and find a new interest in life that does not involve this stupid DirectX, you will be OK.....

alright, this is a recurring problem. I think the guy that first answered this question is right because that same thing happenned to me. And I want to kill microsoft for it
they have made my life hell. Hard to believe I actually stuck with windows... but I can only play my games on pc so ...
Anyways, this DX 9.0c is the problem I think the installation in and of itself is the problem. whoever uses directx should definetely avoid two things. 1. auto updates. and 2. Updating directx pas version 8.1 al the 9s suck ass and are not worth updating to.

Firstly, the comment about removing the key using regedit - nice idea, but you're not deleting it, you're just removing any data of its existance. Doing this will end up filling your harddisk with junk that you'll never delete.

Secondly, yes, I've got the same issue, but Microsofts history has always been bad when it comes to support / fixing bugs etc. Knowing this, it's only wise to be able to backup (to CD / DVD / linux server) incase you should ever find yourself in need.

Finally, how many people have said "I've got the same problem, please help", although about 10 different suggestions as to how to remove it have already been given. Read other peoples posts before touching the keyboard and if you've got to say something, try adding something to the discussion rather than "it's not working for me either".

if u cant play sims 2 because u cant install directx 9.0c (the instaler finishes very quickly but u still have the formal version), this is how u fix it:
the problem is service pack 2 (SP2). so if u format your PC, install windows with sp1, install dx9.0(it should work) then upgrade to SP2.
it`s 100% sucses
try it

well people about installing directX 9.0c I've found the solution:
You need both the 9.0b and 9.0c full versions. both around 30Mb each. Unzip both to respective temp folders. then copy and paste the following from 9.0b to 9.0c:

dxsetup
dsetup32.dll
DSETUP.dll

next you need a direct x uninstaller. i used dx eradicator from majorgeeks.com, bu there are plenty around

once done simply run dxsetup in the 9.0c version (which would be the one you copied before right) and it will install using the files from the folder it is in. and there you go you have installed directx 9.0c.
Check the dxdiag, and you'll se that now your version of directX is 9.0c! The only problem is that I still cannot run Age of Empires 3, cause there's a window saing:
Direct3D initialization failed. Possible causes:
Old or corrupted graphics driver.
Direct3D improperly installed.
Hardware acceleration disabled

So can anyone help
Thanx...

I'm running a Windows 2003 server in a Citrix environment and my DirectX is corrupt. I ran the DX test link given by Microsoft -- http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/samples/author/filter/AlphaImageLoader_0.htm -- and my Internet Explorer crashed while the page was opening. Unfortuantely, I need to use IE because the WebConference service that I am trying to join requires me to use that browser.

I called Microsoft - no help. I called Citrix - no help. Do you have any ideas?
