thank you for helping people like me. I tried doing what you said to put my task bar back to the bottom and not on the side but it still won't work. I have window xp home ed. could you be a doll and try and help me out with another way to get my taskbar back to the bottom. I did what you said but nothing happen when i clicked the mouse and moved it toward the bottom...please help it's driving me nuts...

Make sure that the taskbar is UNLOCKED as described in the article. What you describe sounds like it's locked.

Thanks, Leo. But why does this happen, and why isn't this fix in the Windows Help file? It only mentions un/locking the task bar. Now my desktop icons are at the bottom on the taskbar. How did they get there and how do I get rid of THEM? :-)

"ON" the taskbar? Not sure what you mean by that - the contents of the taskbar doesn't change based on its location. If you mean that the desktop icons have movedm try right-clicking an area on the desktop and selecting "auto arrange" to move the icons back into a more sensible location.

Late this afternoon I was on GOOGLE Earth. I was actually in the center of the screen moving the map when the task bar jumped from the bottom to the right side. I could just hear my spouse asking why, or how, or what did I do. Thankfully, I found your webpage and the easy to follow instructions. At first it didn't work but then I right clicked and there was a check mark by Lock Taskbar. I figured that meant it was locked so I clicked that and it did unlock it. Then I followed the instructions on the video and it worked. Then I locked the taskbar. Thank-you Leo so much.

For all those that are unable to move the taskbar even after making sure it's not locked it ended up being something silly. Like another user here posted just right click the Taskbar and at the top of those options there should be an button that says Close Toolbar. After clicking that it should let you move the bar.

I have the same problem and your fix does not work for longer than one reboot. I have repositioned the taskbar to the bottom of the screen, but as soon as the computer reboots the taskbar is at the side again even if I have locked it.

Don't remember how I found your page but glad I did. My taskbar is now at the bottom of the page but either a bit high or out of sight. Didn't seem to jump back to the original spot, but I can live with that. Thanks for the help!

Ditto to what Sara said above. I've always been able to move it on any computer I've ever used but I got on my laptop yesterday and the taskbar was on the right. It just will not move no matter how hard I try. If anyone has the answer please tell us.

thanks leo, i let my 3 year old niece play with my computer. when she was finished, the bar was on the side left - side. for weeks, i did every thing. so, being fed up. i googled in how do i move my side bar? and it took me to you. i feel like a big dummy! lol! so simple. appreciate it.

My task bar is on the left side and I tried clicking and dragging it but it still won't move. It moves right to left but I can't make it go back to the bottom. It is unlocked also. Pleas help I am getting so frustrated!!

My Toolbar recently moved to the top, it is not locked, but i can't move it anywhere. i've tried rebooting locking and unlocking again and a system restore, but i still can't move it.

My Toolbar is checked UNLOCKED but it still will not go back down to the bottom of the window.I can move it left to right, but not up/down. It stays along the right hand side of my monitor. I've re-booted and I still can't get it to drag down.Any ideas? Thanks
