I'm closing comments on this article because it does appear to be attracting people who're just interested in pushing specific solutions that may, or may not, be legitimate. In any case they cannot (I'll say it again, they can not) remove you from the search engines. All they can do at best is push you further down in the search results so that you're not on the first page or soon thereafter. As a commentor earlier stated: "do your homework" - this is an area where it's very easy to make promises, take money, and do very little.

Like what Leo said, there really is no answer to removing your name from google. But the next best thing is to at least get the negative stuff about you off the first search results page of Google and into the succeeding pages where it they will be less noticeable. This is what http://Reputation-Technologies.com did for me so I'm pretty sure they can help you guys out too.

Depending on the size of the site, the site owner can remove individual links or entries from many of the search engines. I have a site that I did not want showing up in the search engines. As the site owner, it was very easy to have Google remove all links to it. They were gone in three days time and it was all automated. If the site is small enough, you might be able to get them to make a similar request for entries with your information - chances are they wont, but you could always give it a try. Not all of the search sites are as helpful, and your best hopes would be for removal from the biggest few.

We're talking about removing a name from Google... If you have a phone number listed all over, and you don't want it listed, contact the owner of the site to remove it. If they don't do it, use www.reputation-technologies.com and they'll get it off first 5-10 pages at least.

Getting it off the first 5-10 pages is not the same as getting it removed.

Leo is right (I assume that was an answer from Leo). I work with quite a few law firms and requests pile in quite often - people want to sue teen agers for posting bad info about their kids on myspace, obviously classic ripoffreport and scam.com examples... Legally, these problems get nowhere... And by the way, which attorney is it that you're speaking of that charges a few hundred? :) At minimum, this problem will cost you $250/hr. and might take weeks if not months to negotiate... We're talking about thousands and tens of thousands in legal fees. So, I'd say the three websites you could review for alternative ways to help with this problem are: www.reputation-technologies.com, www.zallas.com and www.cleanmy.name , last one being quite inexpensive, but I haven't tried it, so can't say if it works.

I had my name on a few websites and they refused to remove it. I tried legal action and nothing worked. Supposedly freedom of speech isn't always a good thing working in favor of good people :)

Nevertheless, there are a few companies that I found that deal with this problem: first is www.reputation-technologies.com - these guys are dedicated to this online reputation business thing, and since it's their bread and butter, I'm guessing they are pretty good at it. Haven't tried them though... Second, www.cleanmy.name - besides a cool name, these guys are pretty cheap and have a few packages from $49/mo. Last, but not least is the company I actually went with and they did a really great job. They are on a more expensive side and they are really a technology company and this service is just one of the departments they have, but I thought I'd share: www.zallas.com is their website. Tell them Mike at 323 referred you, - maybe you'll get some sort of discount ;)

Good luck!

Dear Sir,

About a year ago I wanted to -google- my name within -Google-,-Yahoo-, MSN, Alta Vista, and others by typing it within the search windows because, after being interviewed by a legitimate news-reporter (it was about sports), they told me to search on the internet for the relative publication with my name on it; it was a leggitimate publication; later I was able to find it and it was O.K.: a few months later, by just -googling- again my name, -strange- headlines started popping out on the pages with my name showing, and by just clicking on these, -illegitimate- web sites would follow: now it's a 'huge' mess and I tried to have all of these pages removed, but then others started to come out!!! What am I supposed to do? How can I stop my name being used as a link to these -awful- web sites? Is it convenient to use the services available on line, or is it waisted money? Which ones would you suggest, and how was it possible to have my name within all of this? I noticed later that other people identities
were stolen for the same purpose (many of them) and are names that belong to various well known personalities among the financial world, CEO's, Politicians, etc., etc. ; Hope to find a way out!

Thanks for any help and Regards,

                                 Frank

It's sad that the only way to escape it, in reality, is to change our names !

Overnight, I was able to push the negative information to the 2nd page . . . geez, why would I pay someone $1,000 to only push it back 3 pages ?

If I want to bury my information, I simply have to post positive info. all over the internet with my full name attached to it on a consistent, daily basis . . . I figure, 10 times a day and eventually, it will all be pushed back very far.

So, I went ahead and signed up with www.zallas.com and the problem is gone. finally, after wasting my time with RemoveYourName people, who clearly posted their ficticious testimonial here up above. come on... Actually, the process with folks at zallas didn't seem simple either, but it worked. it took a while, I started seeing some articles show up after about 2 weeks and about 30-45 days it's now done. we have a 6 month contract, so I'm not sure what's gonna happen now, and I hope this will not come back. so I'll keep everyone posted here. Thanks for all the input!

Regarding "Mike's" post - we just ran into this blog as it is #2 when doing a search for our company; Cyberfootprnts is a brand that we branched off of our current Search Engine Marketing Company's operations; we helped many existing SEO customers with the service of link removal and we asked them to write testimonials for our new brand which deals solely with these issues - this is where many of our testimonials came from.

We are currently #3 in Google results for the keyword "Google Link Removal" at the moment, so I think those results speak for themselves as to our capabilities. As far as how long the process takes, it is a long and expensive process no different than Search Engine Marketing for any business which can run in the thousands - but instead we are marketing good publicity and yes as Mike said it can take months, there are no shortcuts here, and we cater to businesses and a high profile individuals who want professional results and to whom the process and cost makes the most sense for.

When you do a Whois search on them they have only been around for one month as of April 30th. The domain was registered on March 29th. "Jason's" post above is posted 4 days later. My spam radar is going off! Also, when you go to their site they have 9 "testimonials". If your process takes months and you have only existed for one month then how do you have 9 testimonials? Somehow, they all work similarly, but there are differences on ask.com for example… Basically, Leo, it pushes the results down so much, it’s just like removing the name from the search engines, so it kind of answers your question :).
Look at the title to the article: "How do I remove myself from the search
engines?" You're right, I've not found an answer, because as the article
states, I don't believe there is one.

"Burying" your information lower in the search results is NOT the same as
removing it. Depending on the situation burying it may not be anywhere near
what people are looking for. For example, a dedicated stalker or private
investigator would almost certainly look past page three of the results.

So while burying might be enough for some people, it's most definitely not
enough for many.

And it's not the answer to the question that I was asked.

Well, Leo, you're absolutely right, however you have not found another solution to this problem, have you?

My friend's girlfriend got into a big mess, which was aired on national TV. After that her name appeared in a few articles online and she was very embarassed to see that every time someone Googled her name... So, what's the solution for her??? Nothing that you proposed would help her... E-mail Google a dozen times - they are not going to remove the pages from the index... E-mail CNN, where the article shows, - they could care less...

I whitnessed this service "burry" the negative results far enough to the 3rd page, where no one even cares to look. She's happy, my friend is happy, everyone's happy... Isn't that the bottom line? You don't care if it's erased or not - you just don't want the embarassment... and if it doesn't show on the first page, 99% of the searchers will never find out about that article, website, or whatever it is.

Am I wrong? Tina, in the post above, has a similar problem with her phone number listed - I'm sure there's a similar solution for that...

That service does not do what the original question asked. It does not REMOVE
anything from the search engine.

If that service works, all it does is bury the information lower in search
results. It's still quite findable.

I am very surprised that you guys haven't found the answer to this one... It's actually quite easy to remove your name or bad articles about yourself from Google and other search engines. There is a service that does it here: http://www.zallas.com/remove-bad-search-engine-results-bad-press.html

What they simply do is create a dozen of "good" pages about you to burry the bad results further down the listings (2nd page, 3rd page, etc.)... I've recommended this service to 2 companies already and it has worked! They guarantee the result for a fixed fee.

Again, I'm really surprised that you guys think you don't have a way to remove your name from the 1st page...

Good luck!

I did not post this information in Google you did.. you have my home listed as a hotel. This is really harassment as I get phone calls at all hours of the night wanting to book a sleeping room in my home. I am a home sales office for the Hyatt Hotel Corp in Chicago. PLease remove my home address in Chesterfield Missouri(that you have listed as a Hyatt hotel) from your web site!
