I was getting so frustrated... I had deleted my recycling bin several times before. I had figured it out on my own, but it had been so long since I had to recover it I was running in circles trying to figure things out.

I finally gave in and decided to Google it. your site came up first so I clicked and boom, now I have a recycling bin that I can delete again! :)

Leo, no - the questions about the Recycle Bin not toggling between the icons that show full/empty dynamically are not answered by "selecting the right icon" in the Personalization menu. Once the Recycle Bin icon has been deleted, it seems to lose the logic that allows it to update dynamically (without refreshing the desktop) in response to having contents placed in an empty Bin or having contents deleted from the Bin. We need not just to restore the icon, but to restore the original behavior associated with it. Any ideas how?

God Bless You!!! My son-in-law tried to fix it and this morning he was going to ask his Uncle who was a programmer for 30 years at Wells Fargo in the St. Louis area. I am so glad to have called Office Depot and they referred me to Google.

I sucessfully added the bin back to the computer screen and she doesn't know it yet! I thought that we would never get the trash bin back. I thought it was a lost cause. In response to the question about the recycle bin not showing full- that is an Icon problem. Go to Desktop Icons screen (see article) and click on Full Reycle bin from picture and then Change Icon and pick the correct one. You can even download Icons and change it to a theme one.

It seems silly to have a delete button as why would you want to? I suppose if you didn't have a delete button and for some reason you wanted to delete it, you would have to put the recycle bin in another recycle bin and then that recycle bin in a recycle bin and then... you get the picture it would be endless.

I followed your procedure and I did get the recycle bin back which I THANK YOU FOR, but it is no longer working where I can put items in the recycle bin, but it never shows "full" as it did before. ive been forced to learn how to use vista even though i was happy with XP , my job requires me to do medioca maintenace on company systems and this little thing has caught me out twice, as we are so used to the DELETE word after a right click when working at speed its too late when you do the left click, anyway cheers for your free site to check this out .. I did not accidentilly delete my bin nor did some of you I'm sure. The other day I uninstalled ask.com from add and remove, and then deleted the file from my program files as it was still there. I realized that my trash bin was gone afterward. I thought I may have inadvertelntly deleted my bin, so I performed a restore to an earlier time and it came back. This morning I was browsing my Program Files and the Ask.Com was back. (due to restore point I assume...) so I deleted it again and you guessed it, it was gone again. Too bad some big companies think they can mess with your settings just because you don't want their services. Thank you Christine for the fix on vista it was straight to the point and works great.

It worked fine. I found your first solutuoon using the power toy. However, it said not vista acqui. So I added vista to my search term and found your second page. Worked perfectly.

The upper procedure did not work, but I know that th recycle bin is still there, only hidden, because items are still being sent to the recycle bin. What would be another procedure?
