When I checked Microsoft Windows trouble-shooting, it appears to be linked to not downloading latest Windows Update "Windows XP Service Pack 3" Does this sound like the probable cause? Any input on this one? Thanks!

I got a problem with my Internet explorer v.6.there's always an error when i exiting windows then when i check it using hijack this, it resulted that my IE is not updated, but when I tried to use Windows Update, it is very hard to connect to the website..(only to that site!) It also (maybe) affected the download behaviour of my bittorrent (not downloading at all). Is there any other way for me to update in my Windows Update? If i uninstall it, and download it again, it will still need a connection to the site.. but I cant access it..and if i used IE 7, it is not supported because Im using IE v6.0 service pack1. please help. Thanks

The IEXPLORER.exe error I keep repeatedly receiving is due to the Flash Player. I did all of the things in the article. I googled the error and it seems there are quite a lot of people with this problem now that the Flash 9 is out. I think it is an Adobe problem and not IE. Unable to locate any fix for this on Adobe's site. I downloaded a stand alone from http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/964714156/ after removing flash using this link http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash_player.exe and I wasn't receiving the IE error anymore but new problem, websites can't detect flash plug-in so I clicked on link to Adobe and loaded flash from there again now I get the IEXPLORE.exe error again.

Hi Leo,

My problem started ONLY after installing new HP 915 All-in-one printer and its software on my laptop (Win XP Pro SP2).

Now suddenly everytime I start the browser (IE 6.0) and surf a website and then close it, the following message pops up immediately:

The instruction at "0x02381990" referenced memory at "0x02381990". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

What could be causing this ?

On my toolbar it does display an icon of "HP Smart Web Printing Clip Book" and "HP Smart Web Printing Selection Mode".

Please help me out with this.

Thanks,
Prakash

Here is what I just found.

I had this problem before on my old HP PC. When I got it replaced, I decided to reload the HP ProtectTools Security Manager so I could use the fingerprint detector on my NC6400 HP PC.

After loading my credentials and started IE that's when I started to get the error when I close IE.

Bingo!! I removed the application and things got back to normal. So, for me, it was this fingerprint sensor application from HP. If you have this, try to remove and see.

go to internet options, advanced, uncheck 'allow 3rd party extensions'; also rt click in IE on empty spot to uncheck google or yahoo toolbar if is still showing. At this pt, you should not see any google or yahoo toolbar. Go to c drive in my computer and run file checker by rt clicking c drive, run this and make sure you have it checked to find and repair damaged sectors. Also run your anti-spyware software. The main cause of this iexplore.exe error' memory cannot be read' error is the google toolbar(or similar). I did all the steps I outlined in here today, and now I do Not get that error message at all, it also seems to free up your resources when you do this. Am using xp pro w serv pk 2 (512 ram) on an older P4 Dell laptop w IE6.0 Google toolbar is definitely the culprit but make sure you follow my steps-

Easy solutions - disable third party extensions or switch to Firefox (partial solution - still require disabled third party ... in the Internet options (IE window is used sometime by sites like Intuit). Unfortunately what came with IE problem is the following: even if with cookies allowed some of the application (vendors) can't open the interface window anylonger (for whatever reason they believe that cookies are disabled).
FIXING - IP address 0.0.0.0

First of all, disable and re-enable the connection. When you change the IP address from automatic to a fixed IP address while the adapter is not connected, you always get a 0.0.0.0 address at first when the adapter reconnects. If this doesn't solve the problem, read on.
Symptoms:

You cannot obtain an IP address from the DHCP server. The IP address is 0.0.0.0.
The DHCP service is not running, although it is set to Start Automatic.
When you try to start the DHCP service, you get the error message: Could not start the DHCP Client Service on Local Computer. Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.
This problem can occur after uninstalling Norton AntiVirus, which sets the DHCP service as depending on itself. It can also occur when the computer name of the client computer is too long. Make sure that all computer names in your network are no longer than 15 characters.

First set a restore point, so you can undo your changes, should anything go wrong (Programs, Accessories, System programs, System restore).

After setting the restore point, to remove this dependency, do this:

Click: Start

Click: Run...

Type: regedit

Click: OK

Navigate to the following keys in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCP
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT

For each of these, on the right side, double-click: DependOnService

Delete any lines containing either SYMTDI or NISDRV.

Click: OK

Close the Registry Editor.

Reboot.

Leo,
I have read the info and my problem seems more involved. Maybe not even an IE problem.
I am getting the same Error Message as others. I have for about a week, but I do not click on IE to get it. I could be searching for a file in one of my folders and and the message will pop up, I click ok and the message goes away w/o shutting down...as I said my message is very simular to what others have reported for example.. Explorer .exe error- The instruction at "0x77f83147" referenced memory at "0x00000014".The memory could not be "Read". Click on to OK to terminate the program. some times it will say "written" and the numbers are different. So fast forward to this week... I have run Spy Bot once and Ad aware twice in the last 2 days. I ran Sophos this AM.. and this afternoon, did a soft boot due to more frequent error messages, with no luck. So I did a hard boot.. now when I click on the ok and the window pops up again and again and will not go away. I now can not get past the error window.. my desktop will not load and thus I can not get into my computer..any ideas? Yippppeess!

For me the answer was to un-install TeaTimer/Spybot. The error stopped. I have not tried to re-install it yet, maybe I won't even try. I do have Microsoft.net installed for some reason, perhaps there is a conflict between the two, could explain why Google Toolbar also produces this error. There may be other brower add-ons that will conflict.

Default "home" page is: yahoo.com

The page RARELY loads on the first try now, I must refresh yahoo.com in order for it to appear. Things have slowly degraded now to where NO links on yahoo.com (news, mail, groups, etc) work. I receive a "Cannot Find Server" error page instead of the link I was trying to get to.
NOTHING WORKS.

I can barely get into my mail.

I've run ALL virus/spyware/malware scans with several utilities - everything is clean (although I did have to get rid of a few registries that were discovered, and lots of tracking cookies). I would LOVE to uninstall and reinstall Internet Explorer - everyone talks about it - but WHERE ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS? It's a nightmare trying to get logical instructions from microsoft's website, and although you discuss here - I can't find any "how to" steps for uninstalling/reinstalling IE. I gave it a shot on my own, and on reboot - received an error message and had to use my system restore.

Now the problem is starting to creep into other sites, such as google. I am now having to refresh THAT link as well!
HELP!!
