I found a solution that is simple and works !!!
I was told by the experts that it would not work, but guess what. Worked fine and fixed the problem.

MAJOR CREDIT to ALPESH NAKAR'S BLOGSPHERE

Do exactly as follows:-

Click start
- Type: cmd (but don't hit Enter)
- Right-click cmd.exe when it appears under Applications
- Click Run As Administrator
- Type the following: netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
- Press enter

Then just sign into WLM; you don't even have to reboot.

i keep trying to sign into my msn and it wont work. i've continously uninstalled and installed msn live. all i get is

Most of this issues can be solved by performing the following steps:

Make sure other than msn messenger connection , internet works fine .

There is no need for reinstalling msn messenger again but if you want you can try .. Go to control panel --> add/remove programs and uninstall msn messenger
Then use the setup file or download it from messenger.msn.com and install it again.

If the above steps does not work,

The problem maybe if u are using a different browser such as Mozilla and MSN only takes the default IE HTTPS settings.

Please enable the HTTPS in IE and if IE is able to connect to websites, please restart your IE amd MSN messenger and check if you are able to connect.

My problem started after I upgraded to internet explorer6. I could access every web page, but nothing that I had to log into. My msn messenger and Yahoo messenger aren't accessible, and I couldn't open any email sites.I tried going through outlook express, but It didnt help any. My msn instant messenger won't let me type a message! I can recieve and I can video and voice communicate, but it won't let me send a written message! It says " the message you are trying to send can not be delivered to all recipiants" . Once in a blue moon it works. Help Please!! Thank you!

Hi i am having the same problem - i am bale to sing in on other computers which lead me to belive that there is a setting problem or a protection problem. however ihave turned of the firewall at one satge but to no avial. i tried setting up an other account but encountered the same problem. i ran spyware scans which did not help in the slightest. When I go to sign up on my messenger this box comes up and says the service is temporarily unavailable but when i sign on to other computers it works and on mine it doesn't i knwo i don't have an error on my computer. I was connected to MSN IM. I updated my firewall and my MSN IM no longer worked. I have tried everything to get the MSN IM back working and I have been unable to do so. When I log on it tells me that I have already done so and it's showing that MSN IM is working. But I can't even connect. Please help!

i know what the unable to connect problem is... its one of my inventions that turned evil.. basicly its a visual basic program that blocks any hotmail msn adress u want.. u put it in and it gets PERMANENTLY BLOCKED unitil the person removes u from his hack program... now my program seemed to have slipted into evil hands i havent found a solution yet but im looking

Try reducing the length of your password.

I upgraded to V7 of Messenger and could not log in. I had a very long password which got me into Hotmail but not Messenger. This drove me nuts and Microsoft were not much help.

I registered every bit of code; changed all the security settings and did about 50 things to the PC - all to no avail.

Messing around with my passport did not help either.

I cut my password down to 8 characters and it worked straight away.

It might not work for you but it is well worth trying.

I am having the same problem as everyone else but I have 2 computer and one of them I get the error message the other I can sign on just fine... The problem you are all experiencing is your MTU settings. This needs to be changed on the router and your network card. The setting that always seems to work in 1492. The setting on your router is normally on the DSL setup screen. to change it on your network card try getting DRTCP this will allow you to change your network cards MTU setting.

I too am having this error. It gives me the error code 0x81000301. It somehow effects both Windows Messenger as well as MSN messenger but does not effect my Hotmail account accessed by Outlook express. I have tried uninstalling both Msn messenger and windows messenger, as well as deleted all registry entries in relevance along with removed all records of it in my firewalls and still nothing. It was working fine two nights ago, and now suddening, it doesn't. If anyone comes up with the solution that WORKS, I would greatly appreciate it if you could spread the word. I had the same problem today. Error 0x8100301 for MSN 6.2. My wife had just updated to this version.

I looked at my firewall logs and it looked like my wife had inadvertently also chosen to prevent internet access when the Zone Labs Integrity Client message had popped up the first time it was used.

I checked the Program Controls in Zone Labs and it did not say that this application was blocked. However, I removed the entry which allowed Zone Labs to issue the same pop-up request for internet access the next time I used MSN. (You may want to configure your firewall to issue these requests if it is capable). Once I allowed this access the problem was gone.

In summary, I think this suggests that this symptom is caused by blocking of the application (either by port, protocol or explicit application). Playing with your firewall is a good start. However, you have no control over servers belonging to your ISP (DNS, DHCP and PROXYs) - if it does boil down to that. In that case you will need to raise a problem with your ISP.

I found a corrupted firewall Software causes the 0x8100301 problem, at least in my case. I suggest to either desinstall or reconfigure any Firewall software you may have. And try .... The Firewall was not allowing the PC work with HTTPS correctly. The access to MS Messenger, and the access to other 'secure' pages like Hotmail...etc, was disrupted. Some hacker found the way to attack and modify the Firewall Software. (The last part is a theory, a feasible one though)

The problem seems to be related with HTTPS. If you note ,all the applications not currently running (MSN Messenger, Hotmail, Yahoo mail, etc) have HTTPS in common. How it happened , or how it can be fixed I do not know.....yet. I have one Windows 2000 working fine and a Windows XP that can not connect to anybody using HTTPS.

Looks like the IM problems has been fixed...the data center at microsoft was having issues, my guess would be because of the latest IM worm that was out. This morning most of my users were prompted to install a hotfix for thier Windows Messenger (not so for the users with MSN messenger which is diff)after installing it thier computers restarted and were able to log on.

Craig, I have had problems with the Dlink router before, they have a tendencey to be locked down a little to much...i have remote users that cannot remote to the office because of d-link. Look and see if you can open up the IM ports both TCP/UDP and see if that helps...or buy Linksys router for around $50 and save your self the headache. I don't know the port numbers but i am sure a google search could get them in short order for you....I hope that helps.

Some of the errors could be caused by problems on your system. However, recently msn had been doing some maintenance on their server. Yesterday i was getting errors for a few hours before getting back on last night. Now today i getting a different error. So one way ot know for sure if it is not your system that is acting up is ask you friends before uninstalling and doing other stuff to your pc.

hi all, the following might be useful to you guys...

1) For those on Aohell trying to get ebay, hotmail etc to work in internet explorer on wireless networks, you need to use PPPoA not PPPoE, with NAT on and your Firewall off. Now you should be able to see the sites!

2)a word to the wise, make sure your firewall is off on your router (if it has one), if not make sure that in norton or whatever firewall software you are using that msn messneger is not blocked!

3)renaming the msn messenger folder WILL HAVE NO EFFECT!

4)for most of you the problem is that msn is being port blocked, so you need to check that your proxy is set correctly, or if you can throw it out, i hate proxy settings anyway!

5)If your reconfiging parts of your rotuer/wireless setup 9 times out of 10 you will need to re-start the router before the changes take place! (note- not the pc, the router)

6)try resetting all values to default in IE connections, MSN and Firewall, if it was working before then this can resolve the problem! remmber your old settings tho! this seems silly but oftern cant help!

7)those on XP can try rolling back this *could* help, although if its a router/firewall thing which 99% of the time it is then this will have no effect!

8) oooo yeah bin windoze and use linux ;-)

MSN Error in Version 7 Beta: 80072eff

Ok, went through loads of fixes here and no luck. Then realised that the other day I had been playing with proxies in Internet Explorer (Me a Firefox fan so hadn't realised IE still had settings there that didn't exist)

Now by all accounts MSN shouldn't give a damn what the IE proxy is set to as it has its own proxy settings. On that note however, as soon as I removed the proxy details MSN worked.

As soons as I put them back, MSN failed to log on.

What is interesting is that if I logged on to MSN, then changed the proxy. MSN would still let me chat. If I then exited it and try to logon again, it failed.

Moral of story, Make sure you have an either no Proxy or an active Proxy in your IE.

May be other fixes out there, but this is the only one I have found so far.

(PS only installed v7 beta cos v6.2 was giving me jip - Presumeably for the same reason, but with a different error message)

You need to disable any type of firewall! Or internet security program! Then if it works you have to add MSN Messenger to firewall with full permitions to access the internet! If not it won't work! So go to firewall options add a program or enable or permit, something like that and add this extention

C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe

I am running win 98 and I tried all the options listed here to fix this problem. I upgraded to MSN 7.0 beta and still had problems. I dont have any control over the firewall settings here as it is done by an external company so was hoping it was nothing to do with that. I suddenly noticed today after sending a message to MSN customer support, that my Norton was also not working. My IE 6.0 had started prompting me for lots of things at the same time MSN stopped working properly.

I tried all the norton solutions to find out why norton antivirus was not working and one of the solutions was to fix my IE 6.0 by going to settings and control panel and add/remove software. Then to click on IE 6.0 and add/remove and then clicking on repair IE 6.0. After resetting my pc, MSN works perfect and so did Nortons.

Maybe try this.

I found that Norton firewall was blocking my MSN 6.2. It seems that Norton blocks MSN as a default when installed. To fix it:

Open Norton Firewall
Click "Personal Firewall"
Click "configure"
Click "Program control"
Look for "Microsoft Windows Messenger"
(Ignore "Microsoft MSN Messenger")

*If you can not find "Microsoft Windows Messenger" then click "add" and browse for the file MSNMSGR.EXE (usually in "\program files\msn messenger")

It will be set to "automatic" which if you look will be set to 'block'.
Re-configure to allow access.
Close MSN and then open.
It should now work!!

I had the same problem with my msn... couldn't get on it and tried everything. Finally I tried Pheng's solution and it works just fine now... thanks Pheng! His solution is as follows:

"start > run > and type
regsvr32 softpub.dll."

i got a possible soloution, should work im not sure but you could always try: reformatting your computer are last but least buying a new PC they are currently on the market for $700 us dollars. That should fix this problem with your MSN Messenger. post another message telling me how you went. Thanks

hey i have got the solution............. mmm just uninstall it and go to the start button click on run and type "regedit" in that the 2nd and the 3rd tabs do the same. Click on software>> Microsoft>> Msn messnger and delete it, do the same with both.
Now download the laterst msn messenger from msn site and install it ........... For me it is working great (DO NOT RESTART YOUR COMPUTERS AT ALL)

HI this is sam and the problem created by the msn the one listed up is normally due to the blocking of a port.
To over come this might be very difficult, however till I find a solution for us you must keep the msn working via this link

There is a major problem with AOL. My advice to anyone is to scrap it, i've been trying to persuade my mum for years but she won't because she wants the parental controls for my sisters:(
I have been using MSN on AOL for years but with difficulties...i recently installed a wireless network and it hasn't worked since. I cannot access secure websites through any browser other than AOLs. AOL are trying tocontrol peoples lives...they just want you to use their IM service...their Media players..their browsers. Only advice to people with problems...switch ISPs. If ever come accross a permanent solution i'll post. Until then e-messenger.net is a good idea but its so slow and annoying you may aswell not bother.

I ahve the same prob an error message.

I ws thinkin-how mny of the ppl above r on aol? Mayb they dnt wnt u 2 use msn an insted, their own crappy AIM(aol instnt messngr).

For the time being, i use www.e-messenger.net-its a website that acts the same as msn except u cn only chat-u cnt play games or do audio/video messages.

Also, when i use IE, i cant go on, among others, the following websites:
-microsoft.com
-hotmail.com
-amazon.co.uk
-ebay.co.uk
but these work fine on aol's browser.

Just 2 complicate things-i had a neighbour who used 2 b on aol, but he cud do all of these ok on his pc!

Please post a solution-im getting really p'd off with it.

0x81000301 - ERROR:
Close MSN Messenger completely until the tray icon is gone.

- Windows 2000 or Windows XP users
1) Click Start > Run
2) Type: %appdata%\Microsoft and press enter.
3) Right-click the MSN Messenger folder and rename it.

Now restart MSN Messenger and try to sign in again...

- Windows 98 or Millenium users

1) Click Start > Run
2) Type: %windir% and press enter.
3) Open Application Data and then the Microsoft folder.
4) Right-click the MSN Messenger folder and delete it.

Note: if you're using Profiles with Windows 98/ME, you'll need to go to the Profiles folder, choose your username and then go to the Application Data folder (then continue with the same
process). If you don't know if you have Profiles setup, most likely you do not (if you don't have Profiles folder in the Windows folder, then you aren't).

That would be 0x81000365 - everything I've seen so far seems to point at firewalls blocking things. Check your firewall settings to see if perhaps that's the issue.

heya guys,
as far as i can tell msn has only ever brought this up wen u do hav something wrong with ur pasword although yesterday i set up a wireless network to connect my main comp to 2 laptops and now it has stopped connecting me to MSN aghhh its so fustrating. i do believe there is an answer somewhere on the net but i cant find it and hav been trying to 4 the past 4 hours. if u hav just connected to a wireless network i believe it has something to do with the internet explorer connection settings in tools found in both msn and internet explorer. hope some of this makes sense. and if anyone finds an answer, advice or wants to chat about this my email is kneecap89@aol.com put 'MSN probs' in subject and i'll get back to u and hopefully 2 searching for an answer will b quicker than one.

like when i sign in it says "we were unable to sign u in to .NET Messenger Service, possibly because of a problem with the service, your internet connection, or your proxy settings. please make sure that u are connected to the net. click help button to check the current service status" this happens by using the messenger 6.0 but with 6.1 and 6.2 it also gives "error 0x81000301"

Everything is up and running with my internet, spent hours last night trying to sort msn and no luck, tried everything, there is even no sign of the msn anywhere on the computer, tried the firewall thing too...please if you could suggest any more that would be amazing. Hi Guys....
i had the same problem....some told me to register dll and reinstall: firewall, antivirus, IE and even Operating system...after questioning Microsoft database i realized that the problem is in Winsock.....so i searched a tool (called WinsockXPFix.exe good for winxp) on the internet, download it to an isolate zone on my hard drive check viruses free and install it, after reboot the problem was solved!!!

When I attempt to sign into msn it gives me that error code and says I may not be connected to the internet...my internet is working fine, I have no viruses, I've even called shaw cable and tried everything they told me to do and it still didnt work...I've disconnected the internet and reconnected it, used a registry cleaner..and I am unable to use system restore to a point when msn was working fine. This all started when I installed 6.2, I have no idea what else to do...any ideas?
