I have been using eacceleration for over 3 years now, on 2 computers connected to the net. Had Nortons on one for a while initially but put eacceleration when I realised it was much more efficient at protecting the machine. It is more user friendly too. With this software and the intuitive firewall that is packaged with it, I have been online chatting, gaming and music downloading for 3 years. My strategy is: I use the 2nd (crappy) PC for all music downloading. Eacceleration is run once a week to clean it of 20 or so trojans, spyware etc. The main machine which does no music downloading never misses a beat.

I too made the mistake of downloading the "free" trial of eAcceleration software, and used it quite religiously to remove what it claimed were "intrusive" bugs on my system. I was suckered into buying a subscription, of course, and then things went from bad to worse.

Not only did those nasty little bugs keep reappearing, but other adware/spyware removal programs I later obtained kept reporting my eAcceleration software as full of its own bugs that were infecting my system!

I removed every trace of their software from my computer several months ago, thinking that would be the end of it--but to add insult to injury, they have kept debiting my credit card for their "service" which I don't even use! I've even changed ISP's & email accounts to no avail.

Companies like them who indulge in these practices give the entire industry a black eye, and are a scourge to cyberspace in general.

I have had Stop-Sign / eAcceleration for almost 2 years now. I have never once had an issue with the software or any infections. I have been a software technician before in a past life and I know about computers, and their technicians are great at helping even someone who knows what they are doing. I have recommend this software to Many family and friends, and they too, love the software. This company went as far as to do a net meeting FREE to remove a virus that had buried its self in my friends computer. I do not know of any other company that will do that. Norton and the others...you have to pay $30 for every call. So I am sorry that what ever you guys are doing to your computers is not working for you, but maybe you should look in the mirror before blaming another.

I clicked on their website and began downloading their Stopsign antivirus software, then got suspicious as I read their disclaimers and aborted the download. I instantly got CWS SP.dll malware installed which began infiltrating my system start up enries in the registry. Fortunately Spybot snagged them and I was able to stop the infection from spreading, but took some time to eradicate it totally. This is criminal! They advertize heavily on TV, especially CNN, and I don't inderstand why there isn't more noise about this trojan horse advertizing. I am contacting CNN tonight. It's outrageous!

It is nowhere on my computer that I can see and I have searched for it and never downloaded it. When I rebooted my computer and ran spybot and removed eacceleration then my privacy center with mcafee said I was missing an application and I could not log on to the internet at all. It was not until I used gateway goback and reverted my hard drive to put the eacceleration back on then my internet works but it is slow. i have called the mcafee help desk and eacceleration and neither have any idea what to do. Any ideas.

Wow, I had no idea! I was having trouble with my relatively new HP Laptop and had to reload XP. It was infected almost immediately, and I would not have known that StopSign is a fraudulent company -- that has a lot of my money at this point!!! -- if the HP rep hadn't talked me into looking it up on Google.

I found all the registry files by using Spysubtract, which was recommended by the HP rep. Now I've deleted StopSign, but I haven't got any idea whether it is completely gone or not. My computer is working much better, though. Funny thing, I thought that I was buying AdAware when I bought StopSign. I never realized that I had been redirected. I thought they were the same company. Great, huh? I guess I've got "stupid" written all over my forehead.

I'm currently working to rid a machine of eAcceleration software. The customer did not purchase it, and likely clicked on a pop-up somewhere indicating that the computer was infected with a worm. According to the eAcceleration StopSign, the computer is infected with 36 different Trojans, and has a link to purchase the software if you would like to clean them off. However, after locating write-ups for each of these trojans that were "present" on the computer, not ONE of them was actually on it. For example, eAcceleration indicated the computer was infected with the W32.HLLW.Kazmor Trojan. This trojan is one I had a good deal of experience with a couple of years ago. It copies itself as a file called "windows.exe" in your Windows folder, and adds a registry entry to run that file each time windows is loaded. It also creates a VBScript file called Msvxd.vbs, which tries to replicate the trojan to other network shares.
Neither of these files is present on the computer, nor do they have registry entries instructing them to run. The same can be said for each of the other "trojans" that this computer was "infected" with. Ironically it was these virus notifications that prompted the customer to bring the computer in, as the customer has been having a really hard time with system speed and stability. Full virus scans with Macafee and Symantec indicated a clean machine. I removed eAcceleration software and the computer ran better immediately. I then ran Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware SE, removing about 250 entries (including some from eAcceleration) and now the computer runs perfectly. This is the first time I've ever heard of this product, but I'll be sure to keep an eye on it from now on, as it most certainly erroneously reported viruses on this customer's computer, likely in order to cause a panicked user to spend money to register the product and remove the "threats." A bunch of BS in my opinion, and therefore a product to be avoided.

I installed the software on a clean fresh install of Windows XP SP1 with patches and then after a full FDISK and format installed it on a machine with XP SP2 and in both cases my system was infected with the malware that is bundled with the eAcceleration software.

I realize you don't know me, and I'm not a frequent visitor here, but I spend much of my day repairing the damage that uninformed users have caused to their computers. When I uninstalled the software there were quite a few registry entries that had been left behind, and some working code as well, what the code did I do not know, however I still continued to receive pop-ups and hijackings untill I rooted out the last of the eAcceleration software. Oddly, there seem to be others that have a similar low opinion of this software: http://www.auditmypc.com/process/defscangui.asp and even pestpatrol names the eAcceleration 'anti-virus' in their about spyware page (http://www.pestpatrol.com/Support/About/About_Spyware.asp) under the Uninstallers that Leave Working Code Behind section. While I understand company loyalty, I would think that lies are still lies and that ethics are still ethics, it would seem to me, as a private citizen holding an opinion, that eAcceleration doesn't mind bending the truth neither does it mind ebing unethical in business. But that is just my opinion.

I also made the mistake of downloading this so-called anti-virus software! I have run 3 different spyware programs including Ad-Aware, No-adware and also AOL's spyware protector... and there were 32 files, folders and cookies installed on my pc! So my advise is DON'T download anything from this company!!! I am still having HUGE problems getting rid of it all.

Ms Pleased... you may be pleased with this software, but it is two-faced and yea it may be doing its job on one hand... but on the other why should a legitimate software need to install such files, cookies etc on your pc and how come its designed to be hard to get rid of? Norton doesn't do so! Chew on that one!

Say what you will, I've enjoyed two virus and pop-up free years since purchacing the cheapest eAnthology package. I don't care if another program calls it spyware, it works and thats all that matters to me. My window and antivirus updates are done for me while I sleep. Our family uses the internet alot, and download from peer to peer sites, and all the viruses we encounter are stopped immediately.
Could someone explain why I should not use this product that has worked so well?

I even paid for it! 24.00 Now I feel like a real dummy as every one Ive talked to said stopsign is a scam and is really spyware. I ran my other spyware program and it identified Stopsign as spyware. And to make matters worse, even after stopsign assured me my computer was free of all spyware and viruses someone sent more bulk e-mail from my screenname the next day. Stopsign even said it couldnt read some of my files, so if it cant read some of my files, Id think those files could possibly be infected. Im very unhappy with Stopsign and e-mailed them to cancel my membership, they e-mailed me back and for another 9.00 I could become a "VIP" and talk to a live person! Please let other people know, so they wont get "taken" like I was.

I'm also confused. I haven't seen anything odd since installing this program. Actually, pop-ups and junk I don't want disappeared. A few dollars for this service is well worth it to me. There is no download receiver that I see, either.

I don't understand ANY bad rap that eacceleration has gotten. For a few bucks a year I get NO, nada, viruses or pop-up-plagues. I do not use their side products but their service seems excellent. I recommend it to clients and it just runs in trhe background and they become pop-up free and virus free.

I see this article is dated September 5, 2004, however, your comment is based on VERY old versions of eAcceleration. Had you actually tested what you're saying you would know this.

There is no "Download Receiver" entry any more, now there is an "eAcceleration Setup" entry.
