Summary: A re-install of the operating system may be needed if you need to uninstall Directx 9.
How can I uninstall Directx 9?
To the best of my knowledge you can't. Once installed, it becomes part of the operating system. If you need to uninstall then a Google search for "DirectX Uninstall" returns several hits, but I can't speak for their quality. Ultimately, the approach I would try would be be to re-install the operating system and then not install DirectX 9.

Hey Leo, I got a question about Direct X. I probably installed an illegal direct X 10 from a website and when I want to install XP Codec it says that I have to install Direct 7.0 or Higher??????? So, how can I delete this Direct X to install a new one from Microsoft official website??
Posted by: Vundo at October 16, 2008 12:02 AMIt's me again, when I Run... "dxdiag" it appears Direct X 10 successfuly and I ran all the Direct X tests and all of them worked proparly. So I am not comfortable about it from XP Codec is telling me Direct X 7 or Higher and I got Direct X 10 so please answer ASAP.
Posted by: Vundo at October 16, 2008 12:08 AMleo...are you sure you can't downgrade directx 9.0c? cuz 9.0c is the crappiest piece of $#@! I have ever seen, cuz it can't play games that need 9.0 (such as GTA SA)
Posted by: nocturneleaf at November 19, 2008 4:22 PMTo completely and easily uninstall directX, you don't need to " re-install the operating system" .Even more, you do not have to delete it manually.

i can't back to previous version of directx..
hey, this way of deleting is extremely UNSAFE for window XP as i tested, u cant re-install ANY directx after u deleted your main directx from HKEY_local_machine, don't try it if you don't know what are you doing.
Posted by: john at September 22, 2009 4:09 AMI got an error message when I started Modern Warfare - World At War, stating there was an unrecoverable error with DIrectX. I'd previously played this game ok. I tried starting the game a few times, with the same error. Since that didn't work, I downloaded the latest version of DirectX (just in case). Tried to install it, but eceived message that it wouldn't install, as I already had the latest version. Fullishly, after checking on Google, I followed instructions to delete DirectX from my Registry (stupidly, I didn't make a copy first). No matter what I do, I can't install DirectX. I've even tried loading my XP disc, but get told my current operating system is newer ! Any suggestions ?
