Helping people with computers... one answer at a time.

In Windows XP there are a few easy steps to take to control the right-click function of your mouse.

How do I control is the mouse right-click functions in Windows XP?

It'll depend on the manufacturer of your mouse, but typically in Control Panel there will be an item for "mouse". In there should be options to control many aspects of your mouse including what the right button or any other control on your mouse will do.

I have had a very long problem with my fujitsu siemens wireless optical mouse, first i had a wireless mouse which was not optical the problem was the curser moved very slowly and very erratic.I had the mouse replaced 4 times i could never find the reason, eventually they sent me an optical wireless keyboard and mouse and this was when i discovered the issue. It seems as if my mouse is picking up a constant right click (the previous mouse set was completly unusable)it seems to register random right clicks and eventaully they become a permanent feature and the condition stays even after format,i also can't select a user when logging in i need to log in using CTRL ALT DEL. when i'm on the internet it acts as if iv'e done right click back. I've updated drivers, formatted, replaced mouse after mouse even had motherboard replaced and i'm fed up because all the fujitsu tech guys do is send a new mouse and tell me to format.Any help would be grateful as we spent a lot of money on a supposed top of the range machine and it barely works.I have windows xp home edition with sp2 fully updated.

I had this same problem. The mouse would speratically move all over the screen on it's own, clicking icons, and opening the context menu (right-click). This was happening so much, that the mouse was completely unusable. At first I thought it was a virus or something. I unplugged the mouse from the USB port and it was still moving around! I was able to use the keyboard to open the mouse settings from control panel , and noticed the mouse was mapped to COM3 (CP->Mouse->Hardware->location)which was being used by another USB device on my PC (a USB-Serial converter). I uninstalled the mouse (with both the USB devices unplugged), rebooted, and then plugged in only the mouse. Voila, it was fixed.
But now when I plug in the other device the problem comes back!
