Summary: An emachine's or any manufacturer's restore disk isn't enough to install Windows from scratch, especially on another manufacturer's machine. I have an emachines restore XP disk. How can I put XP on my old computer which runs 98se? Well, you probably can't. Not with that anyway. A restore disk is just that; a disk to restore the operating system onto a specific machine - it's not a setup disk. There may also be legal issues involved; it's not intended as a way to make a copy of the operating system. • • Recent Comments

Posted by: vi maz at February 23, 2008 05:02 PMI have a emachines T3418, I lost the recovery disk so I used a copy of windows xp, I have found the recovery disk that came with the computer and when I try to use it, nothing, I can't find a application file on the disk, but am I missing?, thank you for you help Posted by: Dennis at March 28, 2008 07:12 AMI have never ever had to contact emachines until now...years later. The computer has held up well. I am trying to restore my system due to it being slow now, but I cant figure out how to make the restore cd work. They told me they cant help with a simple question because my warranty has worn out. I informed them I wouldnt purchase with them again if that was the case. I still dont know how to use the restore cd. If anyone knows (and if you can use with a wireless keyboard) let me know. Posted by: Lea at March 30, 2008 05:13 PMok dennis to use the restore cd press the f10 button that should be the boot menu.. if not check it when your computer starts up cause it should say anyways if you get that then put boot from cdrom and that should do the trick.
