The short answer is yes, if you can. In fact, it might even be a good thing to do. And it's also "safe" to delete the temporary files used by Internet Explorer, as long as you understand the ramifications.

Svchost is mysterious, and because it keeps showing up in error messages, many people think it's to blame for a lot of Windows problems. It's not; not really. What is svchost, and why is there more than one copy running? Fire up Task Manager in Windows XP, hit the processes tab, and you'll see among other processes something called "svchost.exe". Again and again. In fact I have 5 copies running on my machine as I type this.

and why is there more than one copy running? *** Thoughts and Comments Welcome to the Friday the 13th edition of the newsletter. Hopefully no bad luck has befallen you. And hopefully I'll not have made too many mistakes getting this issue aut. :-) • I'm not a bot. Really. I'm not a bot... a bot... a bot... But I might act like one next week. As I mentioned last week I'll be heading out to a conference in Cleveland, Ohio. That means that Ask Leo! will be running somewhat on auto-pilot next week. Most of next weeks articles are already written and will be posted automatically. While I do expect to be well-connected (it is an "internet entrepreneurs" conference, after all - one would expect internet connectivity), I also expect to be swamped with conference related activities. So my assistant will be keeping an eye on the incoming flow of questions and comments while I'm away. I just hope the threat of snow in the Cleveland area lifts. I'm from Seattle - I'm much more comfortable with rain. 'till next time...
