How do I share documents between OpenOffice Writer and Microsoft Word?

I took my laptop in to be repaired and the technician added a program that
he said that was as good as Microsoft Word or better: OpenOffice.org Writer. He
suggested I keep it on and try it since it was free and if I did not like it,
he would take it off. One problem that I have with this program is that my club
members are unable to open my documents to them now. I think he should take
this program off and return my microsoft word so that I can use it. What do you
think?

I think you need to give OpenOffice Writer a little bit more of a
chance.

There may well be reasons to revert to Microsoft Word, but exchanging
documents with Microsoft Word users isn't one of them. You're probably just
missing a simple step.

What's a "docx" file, and how did I get one?

When I try to attach a document to emails I have discovered that the
recipients cannot open them. They're telling me that there's a 'docx' on the
end of the subject. I didn't have this problem with my old computer, I now have
a gateway XP Pro.

I'm going to guess that with your new computer you also got some new
software. In fact, I'm going to further guess one of those new software
packages is Microsoft Office 2007.

If that's the case, then what we have here is a classic cross-version
compatibility issue. Fortunately there are two ways to solve the problem.

You can solve it, or your recipients can.

How do I convert a ".tif" file to a Word ".doc" file?

Is there a way to convert a file received as file.tif (originally a Word
text .doc) to file.doc?

Yes and no.

The problem is that your ".tif" file may have started out as a Word
document, but it's not a Word document any more. Far from it, in fact.

I would like to copy my husband's business office stationery into word or
word perfect 12 so that when we have letters to write it will be written on the
stationery, is this possible?

Possible? Yes. Easy? Not really.

I've done it once or twice, and my approach has always been a little time
consuming, though once done I have exactly what I want.

Do you have any idea where Word puts the file with AutoText? My

There are so many places, it seems like that information could be
just about anywhere along with all sorts of other Word configuration
information.

Fortunately this is a case where the location actually makes sense.
