Summary: There are a couple reasons why MSN Instant Messenger will display your old ISP. Fortunately there are easy solutions to fix these particular issues.

MSN Instant Messenger shows my old ISP - How do I change it to my new one?

Well, it depends on what you mean. If your Instant Messenger was somehow branded with the logo of your ISP and you got it from them then simply download a new one. MSN doesn't display anything about your ISP by default. If you mean the connection that it's trying to dial, that too is not MSN Instant Messenger but your Internet Connections settings. Visit Internet Options -> Connections in your control panel and remove the entries related to your old ISP.

I saw on earlier posts that you cannot change the email address without losing your contacts if you are using an Hotmail account. And if I am not can I?

I'm not aware of a way to transfer things automatically from Hotmail to
anywhere else.

Old computers or old operating systems?

As to why it might not work on old operating systems: because someone decided
that's the way they wanted the IM program to work.

Try Pidgin (free, open source) or Trillian. Or perhaps meebo. Not sure if
they'll work on all old operating systems, but worth a shot.
