Summary: A virus scan and checking the cooling fans in a computer are good places to start if your machine shuts itself off frequently.
My computer is turning itself off after about 5 minutes. Why?
Well, there's not really enough information to go on here. I'd
certainly start with a virus scan, but another possibility is that the machine
overheating - I'd check the cooling fans as well.

My computer turns itself off after Ive watched long videos on YouTube or after Ive ran Norton antivirus.
Posted by: Sid at January 19, 2008 03:13 PMMy computer keeps turning itself off every 5 minutes and every time I cut it on again it takes shorter and shorter time to cut off until it just won't cut on at all. Then I let it sit for a few hours and I can go through the routine again. I vacuumed the fans, but now I don't know what else to do.
Posted by: Stephen Green at January 24, 2008 02:35 PMFirst thing, unplug your machine. Then, I would suggest taking everything off the motherboard to include any extra video card, sound card, phone modem, etc, also unplug the wires connecting to the A: Drive (floppy), CD/DVD drives, and Harddrives. Then after you have that done take the small (watch size) battery out for 15 seconds or longer. By taking the battery out of the motherboard it resets to default. I would plug the machine back into the wall after plugging the monitor and keyboard and mouse into it. Start it and hold the F2 or whatever the systems screen says for setting or setup. If while you sit on that for 10 minutes it shuts off during that time it means its your motherboard. Sorry for that bad news... If you call the manufacturer of the product you have and ask for the replacement cost or repair do it. If they cant I would ask for a model of replacement and they are and will sell you it cheap. Yeah a same or better model. Unless its new Id just take it back to the store and get your money back. But anyways I hope this helps.

This May Because you need to clean the inside of your pc if you let dust get on the processor in can be supre heated and the anti-Cooking Processor system kicks in, or you may have the balster worm, if so you should go to microsoft and download the files From http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/virusenc/

Posted by: tawny at July 31, 2008 07:53 PMsometimes it shuts down and while trying to restart shuts down again and again.
My friends pc turns off about every 5mins but it doesn't in safe mode. It has been taken to a shop for diagnosis. Hard disk, motherboard, power unit has been checked and it run perfectly well overnight at the shop. It worked o.k. for a few weeks but now it has started all over again. The techy in the shop can only advise that a full recovery looks as if this will be the only solution. Do you have any other suggestions???
