Helping people with computers... one answer at a time.

Svchostz.exe (not to be confused with svchost.exe) is an artifact of a virus and must be removed as soon as possible with your Anti-Virus software.

What is svchostz.exe?

This looks to be an artifact of a virus - Troj/Daemoni-E, according to the folks out at Sophos. Get and run an updated virus scan as soon as possible.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT CONFUSE THIS FILE WITH SVCHOST.EXE. Svchost.exe (without the z) is a required system file. If you have issues you think are related to svchost.exe, see the related articles.

Hi Leo, I have tried to install windows xp on to my 2ndPC using my sons disc. The screen now shows the install progress as 39%. It then stops and asks for the windows xp disc to be inserted or be cleaned, then shows error that a file is missing. It asks you to Click close and it goes back to restarting the install. And it just keeps on repeating itself.I have put the disc in over 50 times. How can i revert back to my original default windows or carry on installing XP. Many thanks Leo, regards Will, Merseyside, Liverpool.

Is it a Microsoft Windows XP CD, or is it an OEM CD that came with the computer? And are the computers from the same manufacturer, if so? And what file does it say is missing?
