I can't seem to install my Sims game (several expansion disks) it stalls and freezes during installation.

The game vendor said to close all running processes while installing. I could not close one process: tfswctrl":

Could this be my problem? If so how do I close it?

It's unlikely, but as long as you're not writing to a CD at the time, it should be safe to end the tfswctrl process and see of that helps. I'm hearing about lots of varied installation problems with Sims 2, I'm afraid.

I often get an error message associated with "tfswctrl" when I try to close Windows XP. Something like non responding, and when I try to end it, I cannot ever shut down the computer (from the Start menu, etc.) I can only shut down with the power switch. This seems to happen regardless of whether I have used the CD drive....

There must be another packet writing program running in the background. Clean up your start up program from msconfig to avoid programs starting automatically and residing in the background. Programs are clashing.

I often get the same error message as Jimmy (posted on Feb 20 2005) associated with "tfswctrl" when I try to close Windows XP. Something like non responding, and when I try to end it, I cannot shut down the computer (from the Start menu, etc.) I can only shut down with the power switch. This seems to happen regardless of whether I have used the CD drive. I am very wary of mucking about with msconfig as I would not know which programmes to stop starting automatically - is there any other way of doing it or should I just be ensuring "tfswctrl" doesn't start up automatically?

wow same here. I have Nero and before that, my brother had this computer and had Sonic Audio software. tfswctrl seems to conflict with something Nero does. Apparently for a lot of people
