How do I change the sound when I receive an email? I need it to be louder. I'm using OE 6.

Changing sounds is fairly easy. As is often the case it's all about knowing
where to look.

Let me show you with a short video.

How do I login automatically with Windows XP Pro?

I run Windows XP Pro, and I frequently use remote desktop. Unfortunately
remote desktop requires that my login account have a password; that, in turn,
means that I can't set up my machine to automatically login when I boot it. Or
can I? Is there a way to automatically login to a passworded account?

Yes there is. I use it myself for all the same reasons you've outlined.

It's not difficult, but I do download a helper utility from Microsoft. And
after we do that, we need to talk about the security implications of auto-login
in general.

How do I configure WinSCP for Public Key authentication?

I happen to use public key authentication on several servers I manage. In
fact, I turn off password authentication, so that even with the right password,
you simply cannot login.

There are many tools that support public key authentication, but because the
concepts are a little foreign to most, getting things configured can be a bit
of a challenge.

This video walks through the steps of configuring a popular secure file
transfer client, WinSCP, to use public key authentication.

How do I get at System Restore in Windows XP?

After installing some software that totally messed up parts of
my system, someone recommended I use System Restore to restore the machine to
it's previous settings. Sounds wonderful ... except I can't find it. How do I
get at System Restore?

I honestly don't know why System Restore is as hard to find as it seems to
be. It'd definitely not obvious.

Oh, and I hope you have it turned on. Otherwise even finding it may be of no
help.

How do I stop MSN Messenger from starting automatically and logging me in?

I've MSN Messenger at a friend's house, and now he's logging in
as me and IMing all my friends, because Messenger was set to remember me. How
do I stop that, and how do I prevent it from happening again?

You're not alone, I see this a lot. If you're not careful, it's very easy to
accidentally give someone else access to your account if you use MSN Messenger
a public computer or someone else's computer.

It require's a little diligence on your part, or you're going to get into
trouble.
