Windows Live Hotmail
Summary: If the time on your Windows Live Hotmail messages is wrong by hours, it's likely because you have the wrong time zone selected. We'll fix that.
The time on my outgoing mail is wrong, and I can't find the time zone setting after the latest round of Windows Live Hotmail changes. Where do I change it.
•
The location of the time zone setting has moved, along with a few other things.
I'll walk you through resetting it.
•
Like many of these settings, once you've logged in, click on the Options link:

Then click on the More Options item:

And on the resulting page, click on View and edit your personal information:

Click on the Registered Information link:

On the resulting page, along with various other details you set up when you registered your Hotmail account, is the time zone setting:

Make sure that it's set correctly to ensure that Windows Live Hotmail places the correct time on your outgoing mails.

I have had this problem for years, ever since I signed up for Hotmail, and would periodically try to figure out how to solve it. Finally I stumbled here, but Alicia Beaulieu's comment helped the most, as I couldn't find "Registered Information" where the original article said it would be. Calysta's instructions in her comment also work, without the worry that one might accidentally close one's account. I don't get why "simple" settings like the time zone need to be hidden. But thanks for helping me to know when emails were actually sent--I'm not receiving them from the future any more.
Posted by: MelindaB at August 26, 2010 6:37 AMOnce you get to 'Account,' CLICK ON 'Change' for either COUNTRY OR BIRTH DATE and it'll take you to 'Registered Information.' Just thought I should share that with anyone else who's been searching for it for, like, a couple of hours like me! Lol. :)
Thanks, Calysta!!! I have been wondering about this for months and I finally stumbled on your answer!!! Wahoo!!!!
Posted by: A at August 28, 2010 4:43 AMHmmm, I noticed that I had a 3 hour delay for my reply. Let's see if this time zone is the correct one....

Posted by: A at August 28, 2010 4:47 AMWell, my comment is still not using the correct time here. I wonder why? Maybe it's the computer or this web site?
